Due to replace tyres shortly Conti's all round at the moment 225/40/18 front and 255/35/18 rear , and body recommend another make or stick with the Conti's . Cheers .

I will be facing that decision shortly too, and all reviews I have seen lead me to replace the current Continental SC5 with... SC5 again, or Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2.

I too will be having to make the same decision on the same size tyres before too long so I'll be keeping an eye on this thread to see what folk recommend. I had considered looking for all-weather boots but can't see them available anywhere in the UK for the big bad rears.

Go Conti. Best on Mercs IMHO

I'm running these 255/35 ZR18 Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta XL 94Y (CT-17337) from Click on Tyres (in 225/45/17 & 245/40/17 sizes) on my C220CDI Sport. These are just as good as your big branded tyres but at a cheaper price.

These are supposed to be well known in Europe?

I also use Vred Sessanta too, fantastic tyre.

They now do W204 size for the Vred Ultrac Vorti, rated number 2 by users:

I will be moving to these shortly.

Just got a new set today of Conti's SC5, had Michelin PS 3 before, great tyre but wear rate is not good.Had Conti's SC4 before that so I wonder what if any improvements have been made.

Just about to replace all 4 on mine - there are Pirelli P Zero's on the front currently, and Avon ZZV5's on the back. I assume the car came with PZeros all round, but when I bought at 13K there were reasonably fresh Avon's on the back.

I am putting 4 Kumho's on tomorrow. KU37 225/40 and KU39 255/35. I have used these on my previous car, but not this one. So with the cost (£74 ea 225s / £135ea 255s fitted), happy to give them another go.

Last car was an A4 3.0TDI Quattro - always thought the Kuhmos were fine on it - grippy, quiet. Wear maybe not as good as others, but for the price still cheaper in the long run even if I do have to change slightly more often. My only concern is will the fuel economy be as good. But will know after tomorrow.

Also, one of the tyres I was pricing were Conti's all round. Two people from different tyre suppliers have recommended avoiding them, as they can go out of shape very easily. Both said they would change more Conti's from tyre bulges and disfigurement than any other tyre?

I don't know if there is truth in this, or if it is just coincidence, but warned if I went with the Conti's to be very careful... I suppose everyone has their own opinion.

Caused by soft sidewall construction..

I had the same dilemma for my old C350 CDI estate. I went with the Conti 5 in the end. Excellent traction and wear rates.
