Yesterday I was checking the tyre pressures on my SLK350 which is fitted with 17 inch wheels. I opened the fuel flap to check what the tyre pressures should be and the sticker in there has the tyre pressures for 18 inch wheels. What size wheels are standard on this model? It is a 2004 SLK350 R171.

It should give a list of the available wheel size options that were fitted new in the Drivers Manual.
I've checked on the USA online manual site (only one available) and it lists a choice of 16" or 17". UK spec may have been different, but unlikely.
