I must be blind, yesterday I noticed that in between the sunvisors (just above the interior mirror) is what looks to be a mini sunvisor. Its about 6" long and 2" wide.

I had not noticed it before!

What is it?

The car is a 92 300D.

I guess it's to fill the gap between visors if the sun is blinding.

I think on modern cars the windscreen is tinted in the area around the mirror.

it's just what you said it is - a mini sun visor :)

I always wondered at what point in the cars development that was added - it's a great representation of the sheer over engineering and attention to minor details that went into these cars :)

My Dad's '87 W124 200 has one too, I think it's a great detail. My car just has some shading in that area that's bonded to the windscreen.
