Hi Guys,

I picked up my AMG Monoblock Replicas last night. Had them balanced today and stoped at the stealers this morning to buy some new ceter caps.

I have just realised I need new bolts too, so I called the stealers and said I have a W202 and they said erm... yea we have them. They wanted to double check they had the right ones so asked me for the MB PN on the wheel which obviously wont be there. They then refused to help and said I would need to visit the "Replica" shop to buy "Replica" bolts. I HATE THE STEALERS!!!!

Anyways, I really want to get my wheels fitted today and I know MB are talking rubbish.

Would anyone please be kind enough to give me the PN of the wheel bolts I need? I have a C Class (W202) C180. Original steel wheels are currently on the car.

Thanks in advance!

These are the wheels I bought:

You need the standard alloy bolts for a w202. I will look them up in a minute. Be aware that they are a couple of pounds each and you need 20!

EDIT:
nice looking wheels, nothing like AMG monoblocks but certainly not unpleasant to look at!

Hi

Be careful with wheel bolts i had replica wheel on a 210 and when i put standard alloys on the replica bolts were too short, if this is similar on the 202 the genuine bolts could be too long which would foul the rear brake shoes.
The genuine bolts on genuine wheels catch be about 6 threads on the 210, you should aim for something similar.

Hmm.... this might be a bit difficult then. I don't really want to spend £40 on wheel bolts from MB to find that they are too long/short.

Is there any way that I can measure it at all to be certain?

The problem is I don't have any alloy bolts at all at the moment as I have steel wheels.

you could start by seeing how much too short your steel wheel bolts are.

1, put a steel wheel bolt through your spare and accurately measure the distance from the wheel flat (contact point with the hub) to the tip of the wheel bolt

2, put the same bolt in the alloy wheel and make the same measurement it will almost definitely be less so the difference between the two added to the length of your current bolt is the size you need.

Does that make any sense?

Andy

Perfect sense, thanks Andy!

I'll get that done tomorrow and report back the results. Am I restricted to MB alloy bolts or can I use any (as long as they are the correct length)?

you can buy aftermarket ones - any decent accessory shop will stock them or be able to get them for you. If they turn out to be a stock length (which they probably will) you should try dropping V12 a PM to see if he can supply them for you.

I just measured the bolts and it works out like this:

With the steel wheel the amount of thread that would go into the hub would be 15mm.

With the alloy wheel, only 5mm would go into the hub.

They are really short bolts.

Any ideas what bolt length I should be going for?

so now measure the total length of the thread on the standard bolt and add 10mm to it - that will give you the length you need - am I still making sense?

as an example if your standard bolts have a 28mm thread then you will need a 38mm one for the alloys (give or take 1mm)

Andy

Hi Andy,

Mate, you are on the ball today, faster than I can type!

The total length on the bolts are 20mm so basically I would need 30mm alloy bolts right?

Would something like this be ok then:
eBay Bolt Auction

Using these would I also be able to buy some locking wheel bolts?

yeah that sounds right to me and you should be able to get locking bolts from Halfords.

You don't need to buy 20 wheel bolts if you are using locking ones as there will be one of those on each wheel - the total replacement bolts you need to buy are 16 - If I remember correctly they cost just under £2 each from the dealer (including VAT) so you are looking at about £30 - all I'm saying is check the dealer prices before paying over the odds for something you don't need on eBay and don't forget the postage costs.

Stealers want £2 per bolt, but the problem I have is that I need to give them the part number for the bolts I want because the guy there is being a complete b*$tard and wont help me at all. The problem being is he knows they are replica alloys so has got it set in his mind that he isn't going to help.

If anyone can give me a part number for the bolts I need I would really appriciate that.

Thanks in advance.

phone a different dealer and see if they'll sort out the part number for you - some are more helpful than others.

Just tell them you want 30 mm thread wheel bolts to mount alloys on your car

Andy

go to the dealer with a wheel in your boot. Buy one of the w$nky t£$s%r (parts salesman) and take it to your wheel. the bolt should slide in and the thread should start once pushed in only after it emerges out the other side. this shows they are not too short - and the fact they are standard merc bolts show they are not too long (very dangerous!)

if it doesnt fit i suggest planting said bolt somewhere the sun dont shine on sales person!?!?! hehehe
