Whining noise from compressor when accelerating

Hi Will.
The nosie I have definately seems to be coming from the Supercharger area of the engine bay.

Well it did on mine when it was faulty

It's nice and easy to diagnose though - I jammed the idler for just a second or two with the belt running (the idler is smooth) and that was conclusive.

Cheap/easy to replace if needed which helped.

Well it could be a number of other things. Remember the 230K engines do have a characteristic for being slightly noisy/whiney from the supercharger, have you compared yours to another similar one?

If you still think it's excessively noisy I guess you can check each item one by one - alternator, PAS pump, A/C compressor, S/C etc until you find the culprit. You could even whip the belt off for just a couple of seconds to see if the noise stops.

The noise is definately excessive ist noisy when driving which is quite annoying..Which belt can I take off? So I can jam/stop the tensioner pulley to see if it is that 1st?

Yes, Will was saying to jam the pulley for a second or two (the small smooth idler) with the belt running. If the sound goes than its quite conclusive its the cause, if it still remains than start investigating!

It is not the tensioner pulley. It is going into the garage for them to look at it. They said they will take the belts off one by one to see what is causing the noise. They said it could be an alternator noise or maybe the supercharger or another pulley. What do you guys think? The noise is very loud. Could it be that a belt maybe to tight? Thanks

re charger noise

I know on my c230 k there is a little balck blanking tube on the inlet to the charger , if you look at the oil filler cap run your hand left a bit theres a 3 inch rubber pipe oon mine and facing towards the driver is the bung , if you pull that out of my car it makes a lot of noise , give that a look and also chack for loose fitting pipes the one to the air box could well give off the whine as the airbox deadens the noise ..

Is it definately the Supercharger? The alternators can often make a similar whining noise.
