White 500E

I really like white cars - but not for the 500e. Has to be blue or blue/black in my opinion.

Wounder if this is a Japanese import?

Yes, it was imported by an LHD specialist and has been floating around between dealers (with ever higher price) for about a year.

Japan is RHD......but could have been the old desire of Jap rogues to have a LHD import to show how rich they are.

Looking at it, no MPH speedo so would be illegal over here anyway, how did it get an MoT?

Unless the law has changed?

I thought all 500e were LHD?

I do not know, I just know Japan is RHD so I am not sure it points to this being a Japan import, just a LHD/KPH import from somewhere :dk:

If it is fine, just an observation.

The 500e/E500 was only ever available in LHD but this is Japanese in origin. Apart from the square small rear number plate recess, OTT interior and the DVD screen player also give strong hints. However, as this was listed by the original importer as Japanese, I think it is beyond doubt.

That and the ad saying it was tastefully updated to E500 spec in Japan.

Drove this, nice car, but way too many mods for me. It didn't feel that powerful either but its a clean car. Didn't have a proper look as in person I thought it was too modded and didn't look great in white.

Most of his description is straight from Wikipedia indicating that the seller hasn't a bulls notion what he's selling

Having an MPH speedo has never been a part of the MOT test.

I thought imports had to have either the speedo changed or a sticker (graduated in mph) over the existing speedo dial.

Might not have been for the MoT test as such, maybe just a import legislation thing?

This was my understanding...

Motor Vehicles (Con & Use) Regs, 1986 Reg 35

Motor Vehicle shall be fitted with a speedometer which, if the vehicle was first used on or after 1.4.1984, shall be capable of indicating speed in BOTH miles per hour and kilometers per hour, either simultaneously or, by the operation of a switch seperately
Except, vehicles masx speed not exceeding 25 mph, motor cycle n e 100 cc, invalid carriage, fitted with tacho, etc, etc.

For use on UK roads, you need to be able to have the speed in MPH, but this isn't part of the MOT test. Personal imports certainly aren't checked for this, and I don't believe cars are that already have a type approval.

Any basic sat nav with an MPH display is good enough to satisfy the police.

SVA inspection should check this apparently, but seems most just don't bother even though they should.

Rules for personal import from Japan (or some of them)

We require:
- Original European Certificate of Conformity (with 51 or 52 numbered items)
- Garage evidence that the vehicle meets the United Kingdom national requirements (UK
specification headlights, dual marked speedometer, suitable rear fog-light(s))
