Hopefully this will be a brief one, recently removed this device from the engine of my W124, its a Kaltlaufregler ( which in English is a cold running regulator). As far as I understand it has a bimetallic strip inside which, when the engine is cold, it feeds extra air to the fuel injection system to counteract the extra fuel used while the engine is warming up. It does absolutely nothing for the running of the car, it is purely to get cheaper tax as it apparently helps the green credentials of my old gas guzzler. I saw it as basically another vacuum leak, and now my car has passed its 2 yearly german MOT equivalent, I'm taking it out and replacing the factory standard vacuum hose set up. Bit sneaky but it can't help the way the car runs, unmetered air going straight in, so when the next TÜV/MOT is due I'll just bolt it back in.

My question as such is are the two vac lines here connected correctly? I'm pretty sure the one going to the T Piece behind the throttle cable and adjuster is correct (for the economy gauge I believe), but the line going from the thermovacuum nipple to the nipple on the inlet manifold next to injector number 6, is that correct? Thermovacuum valve at front of block circled in red, and the ends of both the vac hoses also circled in red.

The reason I'm asking here is that the technicians at my local MB dealer aren't exactly forthcoming with help, most of them are young guys who are stumped without an OBDii port! Mercedes specialists around here are also pricey, have asked at a few and been told I need to book the car in just to be looked at, which will cost me 50 odd euros just for them to open the bonnet. My friendly local workshop have had a look, but came up stumped, so here I am.

Apart from this the vac system is in good order and the car runs and idles well, thanks in advance to anyone taking the trouble to read this long winded post all about one bloody vacuum hose!

The car runs well but needs a tweak of the lambda adjustment, I'm not going to do that until I'm sure I've got the vac system halfway correct.

Welcome to the world of MBClub.co.uk------ Ask and ye shall be answered ----eventually. ;) Look under air systems installation. If you speak German all the better- you can read it as the original.

Danke Grober, du bist einfach der beste!

Funnily enough I looked at the KLR and was considering getting the installation instructions and then doing what they say in the Haynes Book of Lies....re-assembly is the reverse of removal...

Cue another trip to the spare parts dept. For the correct plug screw and copper washer.

Thanks again!
