Who services their own car? (W212 E350 CDI here)

Thanks, I just re-read that he'd already said that he car must be level, so it would require 4 jack stands and decent space under the car, so I'd probably get that done elsewhere.

I'll ask an indie here how much it costs for the diff to get done when I take it for the engine/gearbox mounts (I'm taking to MBSpecialist in Bridgend) - just trying to find the 'official' MB word on when it should be done.

I have done both the engine mounte + gearbox mount on my driveway. Took some persuasion to get the driver side engine mount out but it got in the end.
Gearbox mount is very easy to do.

I have used these and place the jacks stand on the correspondent chassis supports points for extra safety.

That's so funny, I was just about to ask about them!

I was worried that the W212 (Sport) front bumper would be too low for these and we'd need the low profile ones (which don't offer much 'lift')?

Are these okay for the W212?

I found this which might help. As above no interval for the diff except for the 6.3. It's model year 2010 which was the oldest available but close enough.

They used to work with S211 Sport with no issues and as well as with my S212 has Airmatic ( sits a little bit higher in Conform mode)

When changing oil at say 5000 mile intervals. Is it also best to replace the oil filter. I would say yes. Or is this a little bit over kill. As MB intervals are 12,000 miles.

How about air filters and pollen filters. Is this a little to extreme to replace at the 5000 mile intervals also.

Just curious, as I will be doing the 5000 mile oil changes from now on.

Them ramps do look decent. I made my own ones up using scaffold boards, mine are also that bit higher than the ones in the link. Really good job.

I had the car up on them today I was checking underneath funny enough. I'll send a picture over of them. One of the days.

They are not the lightest ramps in the world but they didn't cost me nothing.

For £8-10 (oil filter ) I change mine each time on my 5k oil schedule . Air and pollen filter every couple of years for me , £35 for air , £15 pollen

It is for me seeing as the air filters are £100 a pair. And the schedule is 50,000 miles

50,0000 intervals . £100. Doesn't seem so strong at them mile spans.

The 50,000 interval is a key reason why I wanted to DIY. I checked them at ~36k and they looked like this (below, vs the new ones) - and that's AFTER I regularly vacuumed them out - lots of leaves etc.

I previously had a bad CCV so perhaps that contributed to the black/oilyness? How much this actually affected car performance/behaviour, I don't know. But I didn't like them looking like that, so I changed them regardless of the Service Plan.

Their adherence to stick to whatever the ESS says rather than look at what the car needs is ridiculous...

I'll not be doing the 50k. I'll probs change on 25k.

I normally do:
Oil + oil filter change interval - 6000 miles ( roughly 10000km)
Fuel filter + air filters - every year or every 18000 miles (whatever comes first)

Are you guys buying the 20L oil carton from MB?

This is what I purchased the 20L. Enough for two changes. Great value.

I think I'll do my filters every 10k. Oil filter and sump gasket every 5k with the oil.

I'm surprised the air filters on some models can go 25k I would half that interval on either Diesel or petrol engine.

Iirc the l6 320d engine air filter was a long tube affair. At 40k youd turn it 180 degrees and carry on driving. Alot depends on the areas we live in and how dusty dirty the roads are .

When I did the oil service and filters on our s211 2004 e320 cdi. It does have the tube element filter. It wasn't in great condition after the 12,000 miles I changed it at. Can't imagine the condition it would be after 40k.

The only thing I can think of where it wasn’t able to be done at home by me or my father were electrical problems and wheel alignment, I’m a qualified mechanic, thought myself about cars, but I’ve decided I’m not willing to work on other people’s cars, I’ll keep my sanity intact and use it for my own car ownership needs, I’ve done basically everything and know all the problems that come with it, I’ll always fix device and care for what’s mine, trying to tell or explain things to people who have no clue, tipped me over,
