Who still uses cash?

My experience is that when you do give a note to a youngster these, it often remains in their possession for a long time before they finally lose it, because they're not going to use it. They can’t be bothered to take it to the bank (if they can find a local branch...), and they don't want to get change in coins.

Easier to buy "gear" though 😀

Does it read your thoughts as well ?
May I ask a personal question (I'm sure other people have wondered too) - are you an insomniac? I notice that you often send a whole raft of posts when sane people are fast asleep 💤😴. :D:D:D:D Not a dig at all, just curious. Feel free to totally ignore!

EDIT: Grins added to make my meaning clear

Regarding sanity, as you brought it up. The time at which one sleeps has no bearing on ones mental health. Rather having the correct quantity of sleep at any time is the important thing.

Dear, dear me - it was a tongue-in-cheek comment which I am sure everybody else took it as.

Original post now edited....

Curious arguments being made that those who continue to use cash are in some way up to no good. Japan is one of the most crime free 1st world nations on earth yet is still very much a cash based society. Wonder how they manage that?

Not all those who continue to use cash (in the UK) are up to no good, but many of those who are up to no good are using cash (or Bitcoin).

Owning & trading in physical precious metals/ bullion should also be banned & digitised?

Japan of course is a monoculture unlike Western countries which are largely multicultural. Could this be a factor?

Not something a parking meter can do though.
I guess my caution is related to just how many entities want us to click on, scan, etc something dubious. I get countless e-mails instructing me to do this or that or lose access to this or that. I spot them for what they are but out and about with other things on my mind getting caught out by the like of what was reported would be more likely than when at work with more time and less pressure. What exactly does a person do when trying to pay for parking and they aren't certain that the QR code is legit? Not many options really.
I know someone who fell for the Ringo QR code scam. The best way to protect yourself is to refer to a known trusted source just like you would if you received a suspicious email or SMS (you wouldn’t click the link or call the number in the email/SMS).

Search for the appropriate app in the Android or Apple App Store, download it, allow it to geolocate your phone’s position and pay for parking. I only pay for parking using apps so I have all of the major parking apps on my phone.

Gollum is one of the least offensive members of this forum and I’m absolutely sure that he meant no offence, you are just an argument looking for somewhere to happen.
Pontoneer's posts often get picked apart by a vocal few on this forum. Rather tiresome imho. My reply was not argumentative in any way instead i pointed out salient facts regarding the links between mental health and sleep patterns. Goodnight.

I order from my local Chinese takeaway once or twice a month .

They only accept cash ; ditto the chip shop .

I always keep a certain amount of cash for small purchases .
We always pay cash for takeaway food when delivered, and that is why we order it over the phone rather than online, as in that case we would have to then pay by card.

You mean suspected or alleged tax evaders - all are innocent until proven guilty , yet you would presume them to be guilty and penalise them without a trial .
Well said Pontoneer

We like to pay those doing work for us in the garden or house by cash be it a few quid or thousands, something we have done for decades and we also like to treat them in cash too for a job well done by way of a thank you. I don't know why it is that people are so quick to assume receiving payment by cash equates to tax evasion, such a cynical point of view to my mind and I do wonder if it is a case of like the old adage - it takes one to know one, so maybe there is some first hand experience being drawn upon, who knows?

Also , for the less well off , having only cash is helpful when working within a limited budget as you can divide it up towards different purposes and see at a glance what you have left .

My ex used to draw money out when she got paid and put it into different envelopes which were for paying bills , doing shopping etc ...
Absolutely and the very thing my lovely old mum would do, along with buying stamps for gas if I remember correctly.

The clue is in the dual pricing policy that some of these guys implement.
