As the title suggests, is the stuff no good? Is it too much hassle? Does it not protect your car as it should?

why don't detailers use turtle wax is like asking why we don't drive fords.

I don't believe the wax is actually made from turtles any more. Might be why.

So I take it from your answer that it's ok but there are better products for protecting the bodywork?

BTW had a Fird Mondeo in the early 90's and still say that £ for £ it's the best car I've owned

In my opinion there are products out there that are -

a. Easier to work with
b. Last longer
c. Give better results

I'm not saying Turtle Wax is rubbish either, it's just I think others are better.

a: smell nicer
b: come in pretty packaging
c: cost a lot

The reason I asked is that I live very near the North Sea and have always put a thick coat of TW on the car before winter to protect it from the salt etc. Mind you it did take 2 hrs this morning.

Put the chocs in place. That car will be heading to the shore and burying things in the sand..

Turtle wax has always been a good protective wax due to being a hard shell wax...which presumably is where the name Turtle wax came from.

Smell nicer? Yeah, I'd say that was true.

Pretty packaging? - Not necessarily. Most products I use come in a standard spray bottle with a simple sticker on. Take another look at the Turtle Wax bottle, it's full of Marketing bumpf.

Cost a lot? - not if you pick the right products from the right people. :)

For the same reason we no longer live in mud huts and throw spears. It's called progress.

Products get developed and (usually :D) improve. Turtlewax does a job, the same way my old brick of a work mobile phone does. Do I prefer my i phone and my Chemical Guys 50/50? You betcha. In my view they are more functional and easier to use.

All my opinion.

Would I pay £2k for a pot of Swissvax Divine? Definitely not. Some do and good luck to them, it's their money.

Totally agree with you here. Very over priced product in my opinion. If it kept protecting the paintwork for 5 years it may be worth a quarter of that money. ;)

I know you get free refills but still not worth shelling out.

Yes I use Collinite for the winter, very durable.
