I spoke to Mercedes’ the other day, they recommend not to use micro fibre but a cloth, can anyone explain to me why this is, Mercedes’ gave no context / what type of cloth and why not a micro fibre..

To be clear, Artico and MBTex are different materials. The former the current and somewhat inferior vinyl and the latter the original and extremely tough vinyl.
I cannot think of any reason one could not use a microfibre cloth on either.

Useful to know, how do I find out if I have MBTEX or Artico, I am sure mine is Artico, but useful to know!

If it's your car in your profile (W205), it will be Artico.

MBTex was thicker than Artico and used in the 60/70s/80s etc.; I can't recall when it changed but it was a long, long, time before your car.

I can't think of any reason why you shouldn't use a microfibre cloth, if that's what we're talking about, on Artico. When you say 'Mercedes', who was it you spoke with?

I saw on my owners manual under the cleaning segment, and within this thread (now re-reading it does say MB-TEX in this site).

I assume it’s just a load of waffle from Mercedes’ then and my Artico is fine to clean with a MF 👍

MBTex and Artico are not the same, they may be both artificial leather.
Artico is crap and MBTex is almost indestructible.
Artico in my 16/17 year old CLK is cracking up, The MBtex in 61 year old 190B has no cracks, just some stitching has come undone.
Cleaning, only soap and water required.

Thanks Slade, my question is more around why it says to use a cloth and not a Microfibre for artificial leather?

I don’t think it make any difference, have used microfiber and cloth on Artico and MBTex
Thanks I will just stick to Microfibre, any GSM recommendations for interior / MF used on seats?
