Just switched from Virgin Media to BT as my ISP.
Installed the "Home Hub" last night without problem to my main PC via ethernet, BUT having problems reconfiguring my sons XBOX wi-fi connection upstairs.
Put in my new IP address which it accepted fine but what is my DNS code?

Does anybody know how and where I get this magic number please?

I have phoned BT helpline but its like asking a bunch of monkeys to explain Einsteins Unified field theory.

I dont relish the idea if parting with £120 to get a BT "engineer" round to fix what it probably only a minor hiccup.

Has anyone else had the same problem or is it just me?

Have you tried letting it set up automatically rather than manually and putting your IP address in. Mine finds its own IP then i just enter the WEP key.

WEP key is the security password (usually random letters and numbers) Printed on your BT home hub if i remember from sorting my nefews 360 out.

It may want to know your DNS server. In which case, from your PC run a command (dos) prompt, type ipconfig /all and make a note of the first DNS server IP address (4 sets of digits).

Enter that in your XBox and see if it works.

The BT internet DNS servers IPs you are issued will typically change every time you reconnect as this is the way BT works. In most cases though, the home hub itself is configured as a DNS proxy (so you could try its IP address as the DNS server).

As has already been mentioned above, the best way to go though is to configure the XBOX to use DHCP to get its IP address, then the home hub takes care of everything else.

Well, its all been sorted...........

My NDN is an IT consultant and he whisked through it last night.

Apparently, because my sons bedroom is on the top floor of my town house, and pretty high up, it was picking up multiple signals, but not mine from downstairs.

He selected an unused channel and then let it configure itself automatically and Bobs your auntie.

I have now have a very happy son who is now back online.

Thanks to everyone who replied and offered advice. Much appreciated.
