Just wondering if its ok to fit 225 50 16 tyres to a rim that had 205 55 16 before?

it's the 5 spoke standard alloys form a w209 clk

thanks

The rolling radius of the wheel/tyre combo is the same and the tyre is only 2cm wider so yes, it'll probably be alright.

Any particular reason why you want to fit the wider tyres or have you just spotted a bargain? :)

I had to use tyres other than 205 x 45 x 17" on my V70R as the wheels were becoming expensive after hitting pot holes. though 225 x 50 fitted they rubbed on the wheel arch liners on full lock and I had to settle for 215 x 55

The speedo is OK and reading correct as far as one can say

yes ive got some for my w208. didnt want to fit 17" due to insurance etc so got the newer design 16" ones. two rims are fitted with 225 50 16 and i assume these were on the rear as the other two are 205 55 16.

im going to leave the 205 55 16 for the front but just wanted to check if the wider tyres were gonna be ok for my car and rims

As Shude said perfectly OK to do,the rims for the rear may be wider, have you checked.

The listed wheels for the 209 are 7J for the front and 8J for the rear

no i havent, i will check them tonight. if the rims are the all same width is it still ok to have wider tyres?

ok thanks chaps, great help as always
