Ok, guys and ladies good to be on here. I own a trusty but old Mercedes W210. The windscreen washers packed up so I checked the fuses then checked the electric pump and that worked when connected direct to 12-volt source. Next thing was the relay got one from scrap car but it rattled and the understanding I had with relays if they rattle the armature is broken. Anyway, it did not work so ordered a brand new one that rattled and did not work. Last chance was I ordered a second hand one of the Ebay that had been tested that also rattled and did not work. conclusion it surely cannot be the relay. If it was the switch the rear washer should work but nothing there either. I would think if it was a fuse then something else would have stopped working. So what do you electrical experts think I am now totally baffled by this.

wiper control arm on steering wheel? or possible the K40 relay pins 10 and 11

Try opening and then slamming bonnet shut tight my c63 cuts power to washers and wipers if not shut fully

Would the year of the car matter?

yes, the K40 is for post 97, pre 97 looks to be K26/2 (Windshield washer pump switchover relay module) which looks to be to the left of your relay F
