Wing mirror opens too far.

When I go to open the door after unlocking the wing mirrors open as they normally do but the passenger side one keeps on opening and stops at over 90degrees to the car door which is too far.

I have tried to gently push it back in to position but after around 5 minutes of driving it goes back to the same old "open too far" position.

Car is a w211 facelift. Has any one come accross a solution to this?

I had something similar after the mirrors were opened after being frozen solid in ice. What I did was to let the mirror open to its too far position, then firmly push it back until it clicked into location. Its been fine since.

That make sense,it started to happen after it snowed here.
When I push it back in to its location there are not any clicks just moves back and forwards freely. Did you do it in a certain way ?

Its a while ago, but I think I may have kept pushing it back until it clicked.

With the mirrors open, manually push it back into the window. It will click a couple of times.

Now close the mirrors/lock the car, then when they open it will move forward/back a couple of times and make some dodgy sounds until it sits in the correct position.
