Hi
My wing mirror on my W210 has got a trange bronze -brownish tint behind the glass over about 80% of the mirror - passenger side ok - mirror is stil useable but i wondered what it can be ?

thanks in advance:D

The LCD liquid is leaking out.

Hi,
The mirror you have is a auto dimming item and the fluid in the mirror is settling, hence the line you can see in the glass, it can eventually leak from the glass and if it gets on the paint work can permanetly damage the paint. Very expensive to replace at £300+ from the stealers, though a normal mirror will fit perfectly you will need to connect the mirror heater as the connections are different between the two types of mirrors, or you could simply look for a second hand dimming one on e-bay, which you should be able to get for between £50-70, (this will most likely be a complete mirror for this).

My W124 wing mirror decided it would look like someone spray-painted the glass blue from behind (only in the centre). I bought very cheap stick-on mirror glass on eBay for my car for both sides and it was perfect. Be warned, though, you must align it EXACTLY before ANY of the adhesive touches the mirror glass. I know what happens if you don't... (oops, forgot to mention the non-adjustable driver mirror when I sold the car...)

There is a brand new on on ebay for about £60 from a company called Pantri Trading iirc. If I find it later I'll post a link.

Exactly the same thing has just happened to my CLK240! Dealer quoted £360 plus VAT to replace so I need to find a cheaper option. Can anyone tell me how the wing mirror comes apart?

Having a closer look at my faulty "door mirror" (thanks moonloops), it is slightly different to the excellent pictures I previously found. Winding the mirror down as far as it will go still does not give enough space to do anything. There is an obvious plastic cover around the rear (mirror side) with a clip on the inside just by the door, but releasing that does not seem to release the whole cover. I am nervous about using too much force and breaking something. Assuming I can get it off, ebay are selling CLK W209 replacement glass with heater (no self dimming I assume) for just £10.99. Would that fit? To save £300, I could put up with no auto dim. Thanks once again.
