help please...

CLC 180 Kompressor, and the wipers and washers have suddenly stopped. Everything else on the stalk works fine.
I’ve checked the fuses in the boot and drivers side under bonnet... every one ok on a continuity test. (Not sure which one or where the wipers run from, but strange that the washers are dead too?)
I read on here about the bonnet switch affecting them, so gave that a good clean too, still nothing.
I did change the battery last time I used it, and used a smart charger to hold the memory as I switched it... not sure if this could affect it somehow???

Thanks in advance!

Please be sure all doors windows, bonnet and boot lid are correctly closed before trying. The wipers are interlocked to the door locks.

Yep... done that

If it's the same stalk as the C Class & CLK, they are prone to failing. Steering wheel off job to replace but the part is not too expensive.

Hmmpph !
Thanks rf, I guess I’ll get the Indie on it!

Is there an easy way to test the stalk... bearing in mind everything else working?

Not sure, probably STAR will confirm.
All other functions apart from washers & wipers worked on mine, new stalk cured it.

Ok update...

Took the car out of the garage today to have a closer look and bonnet alarm started flashing as open on the dash when I moved it, so looks like it’s a faulty bonnet switch that is causing the issue with the wipers. Gave it a good clean up with elec cleaner, but no luck. Also tried dropping the bonnet from a mighty height!
Off to try and find a replacement switch on the interweb!

Further update... found a new genuine switch on eBay, Newcastle Mercedes for £12, so worth a shot!
Will update in a few days when it arrives and I get round to fitting it.

That switch will/could cause your issue it is interlocked to your wipers to stop you smashing them into the bonnet when it’s open. You could possibly short the wires to test. But you may be as well to await a new switch.

Please let us know if this fixes it.

And now I think of it, the alarm went off a few days ago on the drive, for no apparent reason at all. Never before, and hasn’t happened since... but I’m guessing the same switch is wired to the alarm?

I’ve convinced myself now it’s a fault switch... which usually means I’ll replace it and still have an issue!
Will let you know.

Yes it is connected to your alarm.

Fixed!
The switch arrived today (excellent service, genuine merc parts and cheaper!)
Took about 15 mins to change the switch, purely because the plastic cover around the bonnet release catch is a bit fiddly to get back on. Wipers now working fine.
I’ve not took it out on the road, but I’m assuming this has also cured the warning light for the bonnet being open also.

£12 and 15 mins... why can’t they all be like this?!??:dk:
