Just finished double checking the bike. Everythings tight, lubed & working & adjusted as it should be.

Tomorrow at crack of dawn I'll be riding to Woodbridge airstrip for two solid days at cracking the 200mph barrier on the bike. This attempt (for me at least) is little more than a benchmark to see how much further I need to go to hit the magic 200mph. I'll be chuffed to bits if I hit 190 to be honest.

I'm guessing on being able to squeeze in 50+ runs in over the weekend which is a hell of a strain on the bike so I hope it all holds out OK. The last thing I want is to be spat off at 180mph or something.

Getting a little nervous now about nailing it down a dead end road at silly speads but hey at least I'm not as nervous about it as my wife is about me doing it :D

Should get some good pictures for show and tell anyway. :bannana:

Good luck,Fingers crossed for you to break the 200mph barrier

Best of luck Spike!

Look forward to reading about how you got on - and seeing the pics!

Take care :)

best of luck Sp!ke - have a ball - but please be careful :)

Ah you're one of those guys?

Do you know Mr. C? The guy who rode his ZX12R through one of the new timing markers at Elvington at above 160 mph a few weeks ago.

For reference, these timing markers are roughly 10 foot sqaure wooden boards with a metal frame. He went through one. Managed to keep the bike up too.

Good Luck

And at last you have the weather for it ,"200 mph" ,What a target on a bike all the best.

I had 160 on my ZX9R in the IOM and it felt wild l can only imagine what 200 feels like, hope all is good

Come on Spike, the suspense is killing us, how did you get on mate?

Yes, I know mr C and I know the incident you are talking about :) Lucky lucky Mr C

he was running the same bike this weekend albeit with Busa bodywork on to see if the Busa had better aero's or not. How do you know him?

OK, I'm obviously still here :D

Saturday was hit by high cross winds, sometimes gusting 40 knots so we were stuck to doing standing quarters.

For me this was not good as my clutch has typical busa grabbing issues (which wouldnt matter so much for the top speed flyers). Nevertheless, I gave it a go and although launching at anything over 2.5k was impossible, I ended up with OK ish times for a stock Class 1 Busa best being 10.78 @ 137.00 mph.

Sunday, the wind had died down a little but it was still breezy. A couple of test runs were made and it was decided that we should proceed as planned despite the crosswind.

I cant begin to describe the experience really, belting up the runway, bouncing off the limiter in every gear with clutchless changes all the way up. You can see the first marker in the distance ahead.. Am I in top I think? quick glance at the clocks ..10.5k @ 190 ish, nope I still got a gear to go... you hold out a little longer untill the needle's just bouncing off the red and kick it up again. From now on, its just hold on tight, get your head on the tank, get your knees and elbows in nice and tight and try and peek through the optically challenged screen ahead of you until you pass the timing points. You watch as the world passes by in a hazy blur. You know your engine is screaming beneath you but the wind noise silences the engines pain. It must be 130 Db in the helmet but everything is strangely quiet as concentration levels block the noise out. Another very quick glance as you approach the chequers and the needle's just passing the 200 mark and everything feels good. You pass the timing gear.... you think let me hold it just a little longer to see if there's more in her... another two seconds pass. Brain tells body STOP NOW. You look up carefully and in immediate 20 mph is scrubbed off. On with the brakes carefully at first and then progressively harder as the runway nears its end. A big cheezy grin appears across your face as you exit on the right and make a gentle return journey up the slip road to queue up for another run.

Boy this is going to become addictive :)

Despite seeing about 205mph on the clocks, my best true measured speed on the day was 182.65. 2.5 mph short of the class 1 record and second place in class, only beaten by the current record holder. so considering less than perfect conditions and the fact that I didnt do any preperation whatsoever apart from a quick once over to make sure everything was done up tight, I dont think I did badly. Now wheres Mark gone.... I must ask him whether he's ever fitted a turbo to a bike :D :D :D

Top bike of the day was The Flying Dutchman at somewhere over 228mph on his 450hp Turbo Busa. There were a dozen or so others hitting the magic marker on the day including Keith (the fastest pensioner in the country) on his ZX12R Parny Express.
