Great news.
What did you decide to do about the check from the last "deposit"?
Well, the 'gentleman' who said that he was cancelling payment is true to his word - first honest thing he has done!
Cheque was returned to me yesterday labelled as 'payment stopped'.
I had tried contacting him (as well as on previous occasions), but his mobile has been conveniently switched off.
I sent a polite and straightforward email to him yesterday, simply asking him to contact me, and it was returned as 'blocked' (ie, he has attempted to prevent email communication from my account).
Anyone one here is 100% entitled to think that I am petty, or that I should just give up/drop the matter etc, but the very real result of this is that I am at least £275 out of pocket (a £250 loss on the sale price forced by a quicker sale, and circa £25 for re-advertisement etc. This obviously does not include the hassle that this has caused (eg, answering numerous emails, making telephone calls, making arrangements to meet people etc etc). I know that you can't put a price on effort as such, but it was still due to his actions.
Anyway, he obviously has no intentions of reasoning, and now that his bounced cheque has been returned (and labelled as having been deliberately stopped), I believe I could, in conjunction with his signed document, persue him for costs (ie, the deposit amount of £500).
I intend on making another couple of attempts to make contact with him (I understand that this would also be necessary in order to claim), and then take it from there. I would be happy for him to offer to pay at least some of the expense that he has caused me if nothing else!
I have still not set a scene or made a definate decision - I would rather let his own actions decide his own fate.
After all, if I let him get away with it, I am out of pocket, he wins, and will do exactly the same to somebody else (I know he has acted in this manner before).
Cheers,
Will
