Would you folks mind looking this over?

I can almost guarantee one coming your way. You just need to buy a car and then it will appear, so get one bought and don’t delete your eBay and AutoTrader alerts!
Er, I did do something like that last Summer,

but it didn't work...

I have found the opposite. There never seems to be anything in the Southwest … The last 3 cars I’ve owned have all come from hundreds of miles up country or easterly. I also find the ones that do eventually come up are stupidly overpriced by comparison. Am I looking in the wrong place? Autotrader, eBay, gumtree etc.
Autotrader is phenomenal - especially to someone who was raised on Sunday Times and Exchange & Mart adverts. (20 words and a phone number)

EBay ? Sooner or later out pops the cloven hoof...

.

No, not too old at all. What’s up with the seller?
Possibly nothing at all. Couldn't find any information about a business with that name or number. I didn't do a forensic search or anything, though - just googled it.

I know what it's like when you're searching for a particular type of car, it can get very time-consuming & frustrating. Especially if you're up against time constraints.

Hey folks,

I know this is at the bottom end of the scale Mercedes wise, but some of you know I recent lost my car in an accident (still ongoing)

I’m looking at this on eBay and I’ve spoken to the dealer. Overall it’s a nicely maintained version of what it is and for its time had a few upgrades. It’s just been serviced, MOT’d and the dealer has said he would put a 3 month no quibble warranty. Registration NU08HJX

I’m looking at it for added practicality and although blander in design compared to the sport estates (which most are) I quite like the more understated external features with that colour.

I would REALLY value any opinions you guys have on it. I appreciate its pre facelift too, but more modern than the 203 I had.

*Just for note the timing kit and water pump was done 10k miles ago. It hasn’t just been done.

Sorry for leaning on you folks again… especially after all of your time and advice, but I’ve been looking at another C Estate from a dealer. Of course in my budget it’s a high miler, but not as high as some. This time a 2010 C250 Sport.
Here is the advert 2010 Mercedes-Benz C Class C250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY Sport 5dr Auto ESTATE Diesel | eBay
I’m waiting on some detail about the service history, but it’s believed to have last been done in September. Here’s the rub… It’s being MOT’d next week as it has currently expired. This week it’s “had the injectors changed” before the MOT can be done.
I have no idea if this is a good or bad thing or why it would have needed to be done OR if it is terrible that it needed doing?
Can any of you folks share your thoughts with me or advise what I ought to be wary of? Keep in mind it’s over 200 miles away from me (like most cars I look at) so I can’t just pop and see it.
Thank you 😊

This is the last sort of place I would buy a car from - either spend a bit more and buy from a dealer with some proper premises or find a private seller who can tell you all about the car. Putting that to one side, there are a couple of red flags with this car - the first is that there was a problem with the injector on the last MOT which is clearly still a problem - but the big flag is that the car has been untaxed in the trade since April last year. My bet is that it needs money spending on it.

It’s a dog

The problem is that at this price point 80+% of cars advertised are pretty cr*p one way or another. Try giving jay at mercland in Nuneaton a call and tell him what you're looking for. Mention the forum.
It’s difficult, because I didn’t pay a huge amount for the car I just lost which was purchased from a Mercedes specialist. It was very well maintained and excellent for me. Even on a 56 plate it regularly got comments on its condition. One careless driver later and it’s gone… the insurance payout is unrealistic to find another car as decent. One day you’ve got s decent car and the next day you’re looking at dogs from dodgy dealers. It’s s combination of unrealistic insurance payout and a car market where even the nastiest of vehicles start at £3k.

Just my opinion, but I would rather buy from a genuine private seller at this price point. You might have to wait a while for the right car to come along, but I think you'd get a much better car for your money.

The best car I ever had was from an elderly gent who was selling his old W124 and buying a new E class (W211). Garaged since new, fab condition, great service history. They don't come along very often, that's the only downside.

I found his ad on Autotrader. His type wouldn't use ebay, didn't understand or trust it. That was 2004, though. Maybe times have changed in that regard.

I think I’m going to have to stick at trying to find a decent well looked after 203 rather than a high mileage sketchy dog of 204 …

You do not have to accept this loss. The other party has to put you back in the position you were in before the accident. If you can not find an equivalent car then you can insist that your car is repaired - it does not matter that it costs more than its value. You need to get tougher with the other party and stop being pushed around by the insurer - the other party is to blame and he has to pay - if his insurer won't pay up then just threaten to sue him. That will get the insurer's attention.
