Would you folks mind looking this over?

Hey folks,

I know this is at the bottom end of the scale Mercedes wise, but some of you know I recent lost my car in an accident (still ongoing)

I’m looking at this on eBay and I’ve spoken to the dealer. Overall it’s a nicely maintained version of what it is and for its time had a few upgrades. It’s just been serviced, MOT’d and the dealer has said he would put a 3 month no quibble warranty. Registration NU08HJX

I’m looking at it for added practicality and although blander in design compared to the sport estates (which most are) I quite like the more understated external features with that colour.

I would REALLY value any opinions you guys have on it. I appreciate its pre facelift too, but more modern than the 203 I had.

*Just for note the timing kit and water pump was done 10k miles ago. It hasn’t just been done.

^ This.

It's referred to as being indemnified.
Drop me a pm if you want some specific help
I’ve never been in the position before, but it’s my insurer that wrote the car off even though the other party accepted full liability and his insurer will pay out. It’s my insurance company that gave a rubbish “computer generated” payout figure. I’ve written to them twice online and spoken to them numerous times explaining the amount will not get me the equivalent car in the condition it was in. I’ve provided 8 adverts showing the true values. I’ve sent photos inside and out of my car that I took in September and explained its history as all of the paperwork and service history went with the car.
The amount they want to pay out won’t get an old dodgy fiesta at the current prices. I was told yesterday it will be at least another two weeks until the valuer reviews this due to a backlog of claims from the snowy weather in December.
I have said to them that surely it cannot be right that I get hit one day through no fault of my own, lose my car and end up with not enough money to buy the same car again. The whole thing has been a drag and I have no clue what is happening next or when. I’ve badgered the insurer, but they simply will not budge on timescale.

Maybe time to mention Legal Action against them as mentioned earlier ?

Just my opinion, but I would rather buy from a genuine private seller at this price point. You might have to wait a while for the right car to come along, but I think you'd get a much better car for your money.

The best car I ever had was from an elderly gent who was selling his old W124 and buying a new E class (W211). Garaged since new, fab condition, great service history. They don't come along very often, that's the only downside.

I found his ad on Autotrader. His type wouldn't use ebay, didn't understand or trust it. That was 2004, though. Maybe times have changed in that regard.

Why would you pay a premium price for a car at a ropey dealership.

You need to find some old boy selling his car that he has cherised. Not shabs and whatever the other fellas called at leicester back street con garage.

I would be looking at an old Volvo barge edition. Old boys love them and they are reliable.

You are being too nice and accomdating their problems. You need to get tough and legal with the guy who caused the damage - not your insurer. It is HIS insurer that will be more interested. Go and see a solicitor if you need help to draft a letter setting out your claim against the other party - and claim the full amount that you need to buy the same car plus your expenses whilst you have been without the car.

I thought I’d read a few of them had been done on the MOT history, plus they’re meant to be putting a fresh 12 month MOT on it. If the brake lines need changing it will fail the MOT and they’ll have to do it won’t they?

Depends on how well they know the person doing the MOT (hush my mouth!).

Those ones have been done. The MOT history is odd. The usual tyres etc and suspension components that have had to be changed, but the lights and side repeaters are mentioned a lot. We don’t know if that’s just bulb failure, but it’s had to be done a few times 🤷‍♂️

I know. I’ve been there! The whole new MOT with no advisories, but last year there was 10 advisories and none of them have been repaired. They’ve just vanished! Although this dealer seems to have somewhat of a decent reputation based on online reviews and feedback.

Have they been done though or has it been taken elsewhere. It seemed to have popped up for years and years.

A lot of cars get dodgy MOT's plus i find a lot of these 2nd hand garages just what 12 months MOT on anything.

I’m not sure. I’m guessing it was done as it was required as an immediate repair to pass the MOT. Who knows. I’m almost at the point of not bothering with another car. Where can I get a skateboard?
