I’ve been pondering whether to get the car wrapped. I love it as it is, but instead of thinking of selling it next year, I’ve been thinking that wrapping it may just be enough of a nudge to keep it even longer....

I’ve seen a few cars wrapped and they look great, but I’ve seen some where it just doesn’t work. The colour is key but this is where I am struggling.

I like the darker colours like Satin Black, Satin Grey, Gloss Black Rose as well as other dark reds (as per the pics below), but also like Nardo Grey, Satin Silver / Anthracite etc etc

See below some colour examples and interested in your thoughts on whether to do it or not please?

I think the flat and satin colours along with nardo have been done to death... id go bright but then that’s very out there!!!!

When I started looking at your picture samples, I thought OMW that satin black looks lovely, then came to the satin grey and I nearly pee'd my pants.
I must admit I believe I'm one of the very few people who don't/didn't really care for the look of the CLS, but these first 2 satin colours make it look like another machine.
Call me bias, but IMO pics 4, 5 & 6 are the winners, hands down.

I've always been a fan of nardo grey, but I'm not sure it's a great colour for the CLS or at least the pics above don't work for me.
Satin silver, that's not doing much for me either.
Deep red/Burgundy is a classy colour and would be a great choice if you wanted a not so standout change to your original finish. Gloss wise, I believe it would be the better of all examples given.

1st Satin grey (pics 4, 5 & 6)
2nd Gloss Burgundy (pic 9)

Have you thought about a satin blue? (I can't upload samples pictures for some reason :dk:)

2nd colour for me
I think the stealth look really suits the lines of the CLS - make sure all chrome is removed to other than the front badge which I’d say is optional

1466EAB6-4F42-4140-BE65-D3EF5E1EF31A.jpeg This (Blu Sofisticato) but in a matt finish.

If not that blue I’d go for a darkish matt grey, but I think the CLS 218 can take more colours than any other Mercedes..

Having looked at all the photos you should ask yourself this:

Do I really want to drive around in something that makes me look like a former Citroen Saxo-owning, Max Power-reading youth who has reached middle age and now has more money to spend ?

I haven't seen your car but it can only look better than any of those shown.

FWIW Jules, for how much work you have put into your car I think its the right thing to do rather than changing it, to 'refresh' it. Colour wise, for me it would have to be pic 2 but obviously not really a colour change from what you have, more of the finish. This I think keeps it looking more OEM as does the different shades of grey 4,5,6, 14 & 15 all akin to Mercedes designo matt & satin finishes (allanite, selenite, etc).
Pic 9 I think wears the colour red very well (and looks similar to OEM Hyacinth red) as does pic 13, that purple looks very very nice.

In short, if I wanted to keep it looking OEM:
Choice 1: Photo 2 (because I prefer darker colours)
Choice 2: Photo 9 (because it looks stunning with the black accents and is a good contrast)
Choice 3: Photo 13 (dare to be different but could quite easily be a MB colour and it remains classy)

I don't envy you having to make such a decision, but will be watching with interest! :)

Image 4 for me. Was the same as my previous CLS500. I like my mango matte paint, but if I’d had the choice would have gone for the darker Hun metal finish.....I’m still considering wrapping it as well

A bit bored with the various monochrome greys. That dark red gloss looks classy and different but then I have had several similar over the years; 911 Turbo, M5 to name a couple.

Image 9 and 14 for me. Totally different and that pearlescent colour in 14 looks great on a CLS.

Thanks for all of your feedback so far. Opinion is still mixed but that is what I expected. I do like the dark red gloss colour and would look to go even darker than in the pictures above. But I also like the dark satin black and grey colours, but agree with the comments that they are very common wrap colours. I have considered blue, but have seen a CLS wrapped in blue and it was too much of an extreme colour change if that makes sense, it’s possibly because you don’t very often see a CLS in blue from the factory.

The other option is to not bother wrapping the car and change the alloys instead. I’ve nearly gone this route in the past and ended up fully refurbishing the OEM alloys instead, but new alloys remains an option.

Jules

Jules, another vote for gloss red.

Stealth is key. You have a mega car. YOU HAVE A CLASSY CAR..You don’t need to SHOUT to be seen or heard. I got SOOOOOOO many looks in my previous CLS500 when it was wrapped in the Matt gun metal. Also a Matt wrap is the most easiest shade to keep clean. Like my current factory Designo Magno Allinite Grey, it takes me 30 mins to clean, and I’m a very FUSSY bugger. Just my thoughts Jules, but IMO the bright shouty wraps cheapen the car

It’ll definitely not be bright and shouty. I want it to be subtle hence selecting the dark greys, black and reds. I do like the silver as per the least 2 pics but don’t know if the car can carry it. I like Nardo but more so in dark light, when I see it in daylight then it’s not so good.

There's no bad colour for a good horse. How about something like Acid's C63? Purple chromaflair et al.

Nardo can look great in the right light, but on a typical dull, grey British day (i.e. most of the time!) looks like battleship grey.

My personal view is that subtle suits the CLS best. Perhaps a really deep - almost black - matt red?
