(yet another) Mobile Phone Thread

I will happily admit to having been an android person, who got swayed onto IOS… but this really does blow IOS out of the water… the more I play with it, the more I like it.

I still prefer android's unlock pattern screen… but I can deal with a numerical pin.

Oh, and while I'm still waiting for my cash back, even if it doesn't track, at that price for a 64gb handset, I'm not going to complain.

My one "serious" concern is that the camera lens protrudes, which means I know I will scratch it. I saw a (chinese) case that covers this, will need to order it…

I'm also a little spooked by how I can be billed for things, even though I never gave it any card/bank details (and no, my microsoft live account doesn't have those either). It seems to somehow know my O2 account data, and bill that. Very slick; but makes me wonder what will happen once I move away from O2.

I had a couple of windows phones and did enjoy the OS experience but in the end I had to abandon ship due to the lack of apps and promised apps that never materialised.

Still have several family members with them, 620, 920 and 925.

Banking apps still aren't available for most of the banks and that's a deal breaker for me unfortunately!

Enjoy it though and please report back after the honeymoon period.

Will do :)

I can't say I use banking apps, but did notice barclays and natwest on there. Coutts is missing I dare say. So far I've downloaded a bunch of apps, but haven't really opened any other than waze and whatsapp… more apps on the store than I care to look through to be honest.

Currently trying to figure out how to download a ringtone… and how to connect it via usb to a mac… Would be nice if I could copy pics over usb rather than rely on the wireless sync thing… (I'm old fashioned)

Works well with zune for auto download of pics when connected to USB.

Zune available on Mac?

Didn't even know zune still existed! I've tested with skydive, which seems to work well… but I would rather have a nice usb cable, will have to look for zune.

I was kind of hoping it would just appear as a usb drive like android devices. It seems to work connected to my windows laptop, but can't figure out how to do it on osx.

Tapatalk next :)

A few weeks in, and I must say, I love the phone more and more. I did have a few gripes though...

- Battery life is bad. Maybe because of the novelty (i.e. using the phone more), but I found that unless I charged my phone halfway through the day, it would die on my commute home. (2 hrs each way, playing games or watching videos). That said, since getting the free "camera grip" (a large battery case), I can now go 2 days without a charge, so I'm happy there. Oh, and I can detach the case and throw it in my bag so I don't have a giant bulge upsetting my suit...

- bing. Search defaults to bing and I can't figure out how to change it. Ended up putting a google tile on my desktop so I can google-search when needed.

- games seem to be either shocking good (Halo, Modern Warfare) with stunning graphics, or shocking bad/buggy. There don't seem to be any "average" games.

- the nokia "here" maps. While very very good (much better than apple's maps), and they allow you to download entire countries (so no roaming data when travelling), it's still not as good as google maps. I've downloaded google maps and waze for the UK, and used "here" maps and waze for europe.

- Ringtones are seriously dull. Yes, I can download more, but the ones I've found on the free apps are dull too. I've ended up downloading a star trek communicator beacon noise for texts and a tardis whooshing noise for calls from the internet, but haven't had time to transfer them yet (me, a geek? never)

- Still can't figure out how to change the background of the tiles. I know it's possible as one of my colleagues has done it, but he can't remember how either!

So far, it's removed my need for the iPhone 5... I have a 5s coming this week (company phone), so we'll see which gets more use pretty quickly... I must say that 4G has revolutionised my life though, and the 64GB of space means that I have a lot of junk installed... and still nowhere near running out of space!

Not sure exactly what you are trying to change but........

Settings - theme
or
Settings - display
or
Photos - select photo from camera roll, ... set as lock screen

Thanks - got my Quidco refund today, bringing the cost of the handset to about £100 which is utterly brilliant in my opinion...
