Well, in the end the windows just sorted themselves out with no intervention from me. Using the car daily and no problems over the last week.

And now the passenger window just went down twice on its own, a few inches each time. That's really thrown me as I thought each door had its own module.

Strange one this. The drivers window on my CLK conv will move on its own, seemingly quite random. It mainly goes down, sometimes in steps, sometimes all the way. It has occassionaly moved up too. After driving, it can happen at stand still also. Moving the door can sometimes make it happen...

I had the same problem. Sometimes wouldn't happen for weeks, then became more frequent and I'd have to wait for the engine to cool before it could be restarted. Engine warning light eventually just stayed on too. Everyone said it would be the crankshaft sensor, and they were right. Got one...

Well I sourced an A 220 820 28 26 from good ol' eBay for a tenner. Fitted it, and the alarm works great, no more blown fuse no5, and the boot light works. Result! Thanks for your top advice Bo

Here's a crazy but free suggestion that has cropped up a few times on IT forums. I've never had the need to try this myself, but if doesn't work you've lost nothing... Unplug the power cable and remove the battery hold laptop upside down with lid open (absolutely no idea why) Depress the power...
