Mass airflow sensor it was - replaced on my drive by the Merc mobile technician for £40. Not so bad after all.

Same problem for me on my main Stealership bought only last week X reg w210, they tried to charge me £160 to regass unitil I kicked up the the car should have been supplied in full working order in the first place!
