Having just read the thread on variable speed cameras it reminded me of a conversation I had with some friends over Christmas. None of us knew anyone who had been prosecuted for exceeding the posted average speed limit. Does anyone on here know anyone who has?

Driving through the many miles of roadworks on the M1 yesterday at a steady 50 mph (with no-one working; why can't they let traffic through at 70 mph when this is the case) and a thought occurred to me: Does the 10% + 2 mph ACPO guidance apply with average speed cameras?

we're down to just over 2mm on the rear tyres, pirelli p zero's. doesn't seem a lot of mileage to me - is it 'average'? just your normal driving, no racing or anything! ;) also, can't believe how much 2 new pirelli's cost :crazy:, Falken FK452 seem to get good reviews on here, would they be ok...

In the last week I have driven on the M1, M2, M25, A1M and the M6, all have some major road works at the moment. and all have average speed limits. What surprises me is the differences in these limits, which are either 40mph or 50mph, and don't seem to have any bearing on the type of works...

Looks like there are going to be average speed cameras betwen M4 junctions 10 and 12 for nearly a year!

I'm guessing that the yellow CCTV style cameras take a picture of your car/VRM and then the next set of cameras further down the road take another pic and the average speed is worked out!?!?! However, during rush hour thats a heck of alot of cars to monitor. I've also seen several...

Just been perusing ebay and came across a CLK. 5 years old with 70k miles and described as low mileage. In my head 70k in 5 years isn't what I would call low. I know average used to be around 12k a year is that still the case? Wondered what you thought.
