My car is a 1994 R129 SL500
A recent MOT threw up OSF ball joint play. My Indie quoted to replace - roughly £35 for the ball joint plus fitting.
He then called back to say that the ball joint was actually cast into the lower control arm and that the whole arm would need replacing...

My 2008 C200 CDI failed the MOT today on :
Suspension arm has excessive play in a ball joint offside front lower (rear) [2.4.G.2]
Could someone kindly point out which one that is, and whether it is just a bush to be replace or the whole arm ?

It says that it doesn't apply to w124s after 1993 because they have the ball joint welded...
My local MB dealer just did a healthcheck on my SL55 AMG and told me that my front shocker ball joints have excessive wear. They said the remedy would involve replacing the entire strut leg!
The parts they quoted were:
230 320 44 13 - O/S/F HYDROPNEUMATIC SPRING LEG
230 320 45 13 - N/S/F...
It was MOT day last Monday, it passed with an advisory that the flont right bottom ball joint had play in it.:crazy:
Did a search here for some clues and there are some conflicting stories.
So here's the question :confused:
Is it an easy DIY job?
Are the old ones press fitted?
Can they be...
