W220 gearbox - sealed for life

Hi Do you guys agree with my dealer that the gearbox on my '99 W220 S430 is "sealed for life" ie will never need a fluid change? Car has done 110k miles and isn't as smooth on downchanges when slowing down as I would have expected........so was thinking of getting them to do a fluid change...

    1997 C200, 130k - How Much Life Left

Hello, I'd appreciate some advice, please. We have a 1997 C200 estate with 130k on the clock. I'd be interested to know how many more miles people think I'm likely to get out it before the running gear will need major surgery. I read somewhere that the petrol engines start to play up seriously...

My 53 reg A170 has had 3 services done so far, the first one at an independant (why????) and the other 2 @MB dealers. Upon purchasing the car I checked with the local dealer who advised me that provided the car's last service was with MB it was covered by Mobilo Life. I then contacted MB...

    Mobilo Life

My car is a 1999 on a T W210 E280. I have had my share of tin worm repairs to the car, all paid for on the Mobilo paint warranty. The car has done 165000 miles now and has a full MB service history. My query is, at the last gtg at Ollie's brilliant workshop, it was mentioned that MB will only...

    Exhaust life span V6

Not that I need one yet, but I am interested in the typical life span of a Mercedes exhaust system on a C class, or other model.. Milage / year of car etc. How long is it expected to last ? Anyone ever had to purchase one recently or in the past ? I bet that this will bust the bank.

    Life of brake pads

I had my front brake pads changed last night .. I am pretty sure that they lasted 52k miles! New ones were £122 though. Front discs are slightly worn but replacement is unnecessary. Steve didn't believe when I mentioned it to him. I have had the car for 28k miles (and never changed any...

    Shelf Life of Oil

What is the shelf life of a 100% synthetic oil? I have 10 litres of Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40 with a date stamp 30-05-06, unopened, that I'm intending for my next service, in January 08. Does the date stamp refer to the dom or is it a 'best before'?

Radio has a life of it's own!

On my drive to work I listen to a local radio station, which has a sister station in a neighbouring county. When I reach certain points of my journey the radio changes to the sister station, and then changes back again. It's happened in several places along my route, but tends to happen most...

    Mobilo Life -- Details

MobiloLife is in a mess. It does not do what it says on the tin. What many salesman tell customers about it is not true. It is not virtually the same as full breakdown cover for 30 years with the RAC or the AA. What you read on Mercedes own website about MobiloLife (in early September 2006 when...

My car saved my life today...

Driving south on the M1 today in driving rain and wind, doing about 60 when I noticed the steering becomes very light. I look down at the road which now has a running stream on the right side of the lane and the car starts to aquaplane and then starts to spin very slowly so that I am about 10...

URGENT!! Gearbox oil life - in years or miles - not fussy!!

I've had a slight problem with my C32 that whilst it hasn't caused any great problems, I wanted it sorted. I'm a perfectionist!! Car's at the dealers as we speak After much head scratching, diagnostics, and changing parts, they've concluded it was the gearbox oil. Replaced it and they...
