Hi

Does anyone have instructions on changing the 16 plugs on my w220.
Thanks

Alan

Have a look on one of the yank sites either benzworld or mbworld and do a search pretty good instructions.

Basically remove all coil packs and plug leads use 17mm spanner to pry leads of the plugs.

Buy iridium plugs. nasty, horrible, painiful job though!

Have you thought about getting an indi to do it for you?

horrible job and easy to make a mess of it, and im an engineer!!! I would get an indi with the correct tools and experience to do it, you mess a coil pack up and your talking telephone numbers to replace it, same with any of the leads,

I recently saw a BMW get that exact problem. Took an expert 7 days to resolve the issue. In the end the camshaft went out of alignment to the crankshaft. The crankshaft bolt came loose.

All because the coil pack was not handled correctly.

Normally it would have cost about 5000 pounds to do the repair but was done for much less using this expert.

To remove pack use the 17mm spanner to pry the 2 plug leads of the 2 spark plugs per cylinder, the steel plug caps have a slotted section for this, then remove 1 screw from coil pack, unplug 1 plug per pack and remove, i just dont see why everyone says its so hard:confused:

Noting which lead goes to which plug i thinks it top lead on the coil to front plug on the cylinder head.

Remove all 8 packs and any associated trunking and away you go.

3/8 drive sockets easier to get into the gaps and some small extension and a wobbly bit are all handy but not essential.

I did mine twice once to change the plugs and again to change the leads.

Whilst not the easiest plugs i have ever done not the hardest and why pay someone money when it can stay in your pocket:)

Checked leads after i replaced them all and 3 had gone out of spec rest were okay.
