1.8 Slk?

Hi all, i have come across something which im not sure about and would like some feedback on.
Is it true that even though they are badged as 230 kompressors they are actually 1.8 16v supercharged engines? i know there not N/A but i thought they were 2.3 litre engines.

An SLK230 is a 2.3 litre with a kompressor. That is the old shape SLK, the new SLK has a 1.8 kompressor engine badged as SLK200.

SLK230 dependant on age is either a 2 litre supercharged engine or the newer twinpulse engine is 1.8 litre supercharged engine.

Just for the record...

...the old shape 230 Kompressor is a 2.295L engine, not a 2L.

I have one and have just checked all the documentation - also confirmed in the official SLK-Class Roadster Brochure 31/10/02.

Shude I know what you wrote concurs and in all honesty the day I try and challenge a detail in your posts will be the day I am wong, but then in the very next post JezyG tried to make my car a 2L I just can't afford to keep losing thirds of a litre

Incidentally, I know I have been moaning in previous posts about the SLK 230K, but I absolutely love it at the moment. Just recently had a few plays with the ESP off and that's just great fun - does anyone know how to disconnect the HUGE yellow ! light because its very distracting at night ?

Why do I have to put it back, is it a warning light for other things, or just related to the ESP ?

I think it comes on if ESP is malfunctioning - so probably not best idea to take it out permanently.

Merc announced at the end of last year that the future 180, 200 and 230 engines would all be supercharged 1.8L fours in various states of boost. Should mean that tuning the lower engines should be straightforward, maybe even just a remap

Well you live and learn but I was sure that they did a 2 litre 230K at some point as well or was the old 200K the 2 litre and 230 2.3 litre supercharged??? This is just as confusing as BMW'S old and new 316 and 318!!

Be very careful, sometimes my posts are just a load of unsubstantiated hearsay/gossip/lies but may actually read like the truth

IIRC the differences include pulley, software (as you say) and pistons. Forum member Miro has done a lot of research into this and he has all the specs/part numbers etc I think.
