But pick a better colour!
In fairness the R170 SLK only had about 6 colours to choose towards the end of production. Solid red, white and black, then blue, silver and obsidian for metallics. Pretty shocking really. Even I would probably choose silver given that pitiful selection, maybe obsidian. The pre-facelift SLK had some amazing colour choices though, not that you ever see them on the road, I saw a designo purple SLK for sale with black/purple interior and it looked superb! I think it's a shame that the colour choice has been whittled down to literally 3 different silvers, a couple of blacks, white, blue and maybe a green for each model. The only car to that kept a decent colour in it's selection was the w203 avantgarde which was 994 amethyst purple, and that's gone now as well! Personally I think silver is great to look at but it's seriously boring now, but what choice do people have? Self-defeating in the end, dealers offer rubbish colours, people choose silver, dealers don't sell anything other than silver so back off the colours even more.

Well I now consider myself instructed on the colour sheme of life, but I would like to agree with the fact that Silver is boring, but where in the manual does it say that thou shalt emulate the colour of thy car and be boring also! there I said it. In another note I am offering help and guidance to those afflicted with this impediment. Please see the thread "Free Respay" and all will be revealed. Am now emigrating to Siberia, bye.

Pewter is the best colour IMO, but it seems to have been discontinued. On the subject of "girl's car", I've never really understood what that meant. Most 2 seat convertibles get bought by a high proportion of women, with the possible exception of TVRs - the clutch is too heavy. The 911 is about the worst design currently on the road. Almost everything is in the wrong place and the interior is a styling and ergonomic disaster. Also, as they say, the difference between a Merc and a Porsche is that no one lets either out at junctions but if you're in a Porsche they gob at you as they drive by - completely justifiably.

And I've never understood that. What does it matter what car someone's driving? So what if they're driving a Porsche? Good luck to them!

I *hate* with a passion that attitude. It's the same kind of attitude that leads to cars being keyed, because the punk doing it thinks the owner's a tosser *because* he drives a Porsche, Mercedes, Ferrari, whatever.

Why can't people just appreciate that people buy cars for many different reasons. When I was a kid, my father and I were heavily into Volkswagens, had a couple of Beetles and Campers, went to all the shows, we were VW nuts. At VW Action one year (one of the shows), when I was about 10, there was an old Porsche Speedster there that blew me away; I said to myself that one day I would have one.

So, if I did get one, or even a current model, and some punk gobbed at me as I drove by, you'd say "Well done, chap!".

(Of course, you could have said that to get a reaction, in which case I've been caught hook, line and sinker ;) )

It was a cheap jibe at Porsche911 to get him back for the girl's car insult. Mind you the 911's still a rubbish car. I meant that.

What the F.

The 911 is probably the best car of all time

I currently have a cl500 late 2001 20k miles which is covered with rust so dont talk to me about MB.

I'm not sure how all this hostility relates to the engine capacity of certain SLKs!

This thread is now being closed to replies unless someone desperately wants to add something significant to the SLK engine discussion.
