Hi all,

I have just bought a 1990 300CE and the rear window is slightly delaminating in both bottom corners. Does anyone have any experience of dealing with this such as replacement and cost?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

The 124 coupe rear screens are expensive. £500+

Most people just live with it.

As Howard says they are expensive as they are laminated-and glued in place- possibly to add structural strength to the upper bodywork. For that reason replacement can be quite costly and together with a genuine part can add up to £750+ especially if the steel body recess the screen sits in is badly corroded. Best to live with it provided its not leaking into the car/boot interior. Water ingress can be slowed by a thin film of clear silicone sealant round the sides and bottom edge of the screen surround but must be done sympathetically/neatly to avoid looking naff.

i got both my screens replaced.

my rear had de-lam, not a lot, but enough on the corners to bother me + my de mister only cleared the middle section of the screen and didnt do a good job at that either.

I got both screens done under insurance, but and only paid the £75 excess.

Mind you i had to really speech the insurance to replace the rear, the front was a doddle.

when asked how much the rear was i choked.....£1200 was his answer. (obviously ask this question once you have passed the hurdle of getting it approved by the insurance company first lol)!!!

the rear screen is made from the company Sigla.

edit: insurance will give you the story of its not physically damaged and its general wear and tear, but a bit of talking did the trick for me.

..hint, try it before the winter period is over you have more of a case.
