124 E320 gearbox

Could anyone tell me which gear an E320 should pull away in when in "S" standard mode, please? I had a 96 E280 estate, which always started in first, but my 94 E320 only ever starts in second, whether in E or S, unless booted.

I've read previously that the 320s don't start in first when in S, but I'd love the definitive answer, as I suspect the switching selector may be at fault.

Pretty certain it's 2nd, regardless of whether in E or S - mine certainly does (and did so on its previous gearbox too).

Mine is designed to start normally in second, and can still easily induce wheel spin - needs LSD as standard really, not as an option.

both mine start in second, but drops in 1st if booted

Second unless heavy on the throttle. Like yours my 280 always starts in 1st.
