My W209 CLK55 AMG went to Mercedes Benz Stockport for a general "check up" on the 8th July 2010 as I'd only recently bought the car.

I was charged £253 for the privilege of being told that my car needed (amongst other things):

  • New front anti roll bar, bushes & links.
  • headlamp level sensor.
  • new front discs.
  • new alarm siren.
  • gearbox multi seal leaking

All told, this was coming to nearly £1500 to put right with £800 going on the ARB alone!!! (this was on top of the £253 they'd already charged me!)

To add to this, I was treated as if I was something my dog had produced on the park that morning.

Heading back to these forums, I quickly found two clear contenders to consider instead of MB. SPR in Stockport and Ian and his crew at 124 Works. Late on the evening of the 8th, I sent Ian a PM. On the morning of the 9th, I also called SPR to ask for a price to sort just the anti roll bar and bits. After giving my chassis number, nothing further was heard from them.

Ian called me on the morning of the 9th and was a breath of fresh air. Ian actually understands the concept of customer service and I had no concerns about going the extra distance (I am in Manchester) to see him. The car was duly delivered to 124 Works at 6pm on the Friday evening where Ian had waited to take delivery and to talk things through in more detail which was kind of him. A trip to the Railway pub followed for a general chinwag and a few beverages.

10 am the following morning Ian called with a full update. The ARB was not worn and the bushes & links only needed replacing. The front discs and pads needed doing also as did the headlight level sensor, the alarm & gearbox seal. Ian so impressed me that I also asked him to change the 16 spark plugs (which would have been over £400 to sort from MB alone), to look at the sun roof which was playing up and to sort the boot lock which was sticking.

Over the next few days, Ian called with daily updates on how things were going and also to check that it was ok to order various parts - again un-heard of in all my years of motoring.

I returned to pick up the car - all work completed to a very high standard - and a price (for everything, including the plugs) which was considerably less than MB Stockport's quote for just the items listed.

To cut a very long post short, I have been super impressed with Ian and his team and can give him a very strong recommendation. My car will not be going elsewhere from now on and believe me, I am a very fussy individual!

Along the way my father-in-law (who picked me up from the Railway) took a shining to one of Ian's lovely motors which he is taking ownership of tomorrow.

Anyway, huge thanks again to Ian and all at 124 Works.

Just to clear up the matter of the "Fence" :o When I arrived at Jays I inadvertently reversed into one of his fence panels, only a touch I hasten to add. What was unfortunate was the fact that I was seen to knock the said fence.:wallbash: No damage done to either car or fence but I think I am going to be given a hard time on any subsequent GTG's

Ian

You'll be safe up here. Not seen a lap panel fence at any GTG.
