Anyone on here had their 12v battery replaced on a C350E? did you go to dealer ? being quoted £750 by dealer, but RAC can fit it (alledgedly) for £260

Did you get a cost breakdown from the dealer ? Does the quote include the support battery in the footwell ?Unless you have a very unusual spec the 12V battery should be a typical 95Ah unit which shouldn't cost more than £200. The rest would be labour...

12V BATTERY TO BE REPLACED THEN CODING OF :
ENGINE CONTROL UNIT
POWER ELECTRICS CONTROL UNIT
AC CONTROL UNIT
ESP CONTROL UNIT
FUEL PUMP CONTROL UNIT

The battery is in a tricky location, RAC quoted 276 to come and replace the battery

Put the bonnet into service position. . Its easy to change the battery.

The battery is located in the boot and there is a metal strut in the way.

The battery is in the boot. It's best to do it with a Star Machine because the High Voltage system will probably require shutdown/startup. Still £750 sounds a lot. Try another dealer from outside London. At least for peace of mind.

Easier still then.

Are you sure it is a 'standard' 12V battery? As others have said, it seems expensive but something tell me its because your model is a hybrid?

Why does it need replacing?.....this is what I would be asking.

this is what i am being told

The fault is with the 12v Battery, insufficient power on this side of the car means some of the hybrid systems will fault until the 12v system is up and running

How old is the car? If it's out of warranty, try an independent MB specialist; he'll have STAR if he's any good. Whereabouts in London are you?

Car is 3.5 years old so out of warranty, i live in Dulwich, South London, Dealer has now offered 20% reduction, i have gone back and asked them to lower it, lets see what happens.

I would stongly suspect that it requires an AGM battery, if this is the case the RAC price appears way too good to be true (Free fitting perhaps?)

it is an AGM battery, i am nervous about going to the RAC as I have visions of them coming and taking one look and saying they can't do it!!

If the garage has quoted for recoding

12V BATTERY TO BE REPLACED THEN CODING OF :
  1. ENGINE CONTROL UNIT
  2. POWER ELECTRICS CONTROL UNIT
  3. AC CONTROL UNIT
  4. ESP CONTROL UNIT
  5. FUEL PUMP CONTROL UNIT

Can the RAC do this ?

cost of battery is £240 and fitting is £35 with RAC

Dealer is advising battery cost is £190, but they are quoting 3 hours labour to do everything, they have come back with reduction of £609 all in, I have been cheeky and asked for more.

sounds like the respective quotes are not like for like work .....

Can you get the RAC to fit a genuine battery ?

The steps 3,4 and 5 from the quote don't make much sens. I would strongly suggest to contact another dealer to make sure it's right. Won't cost you anything to make a phone call.
