Guys,
upon my retrn to the UK i was itching to tell some one of this, i was in india for 2 weeks to visit family there. We had decides to vist a few places and were on the way towards the Rajastan border from the Punjab.
As we all know india has not got the best roads in the world nor has it got the best transport, we were in a small suzuki car thing about 800 cc engine.
The trip to the place was around 3.5 hrs each way, on the way there there was a good strecth of newly laid road, so there i was gazing out the windscreen..... when i thought i saw a Merc sign.... i blinked and opened my eyes again and it was a merc badge, attached to the badge was a vintage 190SL in black with the top down and a guy and his partner soaking up the sun i quicky pointed it out to my wife and was gob smacked to see such a car, and in india.
Anway after the initial shock of it i though ti ti to be a rare one of somebody who obviously had a shed load of surplus cash and had moved to India for whatever reason. But to my shock further down the road about 20-30 mins and other one pulls out this time a white 190SL ..... now i was confused...

I dont see those types of cars here in the UK and rarely see them in the US when i go over, but 2 mint 190SL's in one day and in india......
i was tempted to tell the driver to stop and go after them but i decided against it.....

So if anyone knows if there was some sort of race or challenge in india i would love to know about it....

Regards

Raj

Have seen some beautiful classics in India in the last few years. On the way to Amritsar earlier this year, saw a Pullman limo parked up on the main N1. Also saw a red american convertible with cream interior in mint condition. Some of the taxis in the west of the country are old american cars with the tail fins.
Anything goes wrong with these cars and you can always find someone to make the part for you!

When I used to live in Bangalore, I visited Vijay Mallya place a few times (Indian Billionaire - think Kingfisher Beer) and checked out his car collection. He had some of the best classics I have ever seen. We'd see them being driven quite a bit around town.

I went to India last year after 3 years, and was amazed to see the change of cars that they used to have... to now...

I know the amount of Mercs there now is un real... i saw brand new e and c classes..... but the 190s were being driven by (forgive me for saying) "white" guys, which made me think that it may be a race or challenge,

but there is people out there with cash as to get a diagnostics done on a merc here in 100 pounds, and thats most peoples monthly wage in india !!!!!!

Found this site which is strictly USA as far as I can see, so doesn't answer your question unfortunately. However if you interested in 190SLs some good info and pictures.http://www.190slgroup.com/

Which reminds me whats happened to pontoneer???

Sorry.....

Ahem..........

Is MB ownership an exclusive club now, No whites allowed.....:D

I didnt mean it in that way, just seems odd to see it in India, 2 190SLs both being driven by white guys, thats odd in india, like i said i wouldnt dream of driving on their roads they are nutters....
you have like 3-4 vehicles side by side taking over each other and that scared the crap out of me....

No need to be sorry, I was only joking..

Funily enough in my local City 9 out of 10 mercs are owned by Indians!

Raj, your SL pic doesnt seem to come up in your gallery post? I certainly cant see it?
Ditto so it's not you grober.

I wonder how Nigel can view it?

Well, if you're an Indian doctor or dentist, you need 3 things, a nice house, a good woman and lastly a mercedes. Some Indian households have 2 or 3 for status value and bragging rights :D

i need to master the art of posting pics on here its so complicated.... i think i need to set up a website or something, i tried but it didnt work....

and not braging but i got 2 mercs, merely trying to catch up..... ;>
