Does anyone happen to know if the 190D 2.5 Auto had the same engine and geabox as the w124 2.5 D from the same period ?

Pretty sure it's identical on both counts. It's definately the 5 pot engine so would assume the box to be the same as it's a 722.4 box. Possibly the 190 runs a higher final drive ratio in the diff.

Saw that yesterday, it's looks good if a bit older.

There was cracking one the other week with a gearbox fault, wouldn't change up from 1st.....Hmm...missed the end of the auction..made £206 with no MOT but seller claimed no work to do but gearbox.

Cheap runabout for my missus would replace Honda accord with double that mileage which went this morning, Its only done 92K (documented)and its a merc diesel looks tidy should last forever, If the box is really gone which it might not be, could just be overfilled with ATF, anyhow a replacement box and a service cheap low mileage, low MPG merc on the road, thats my reasoning

The box will be slipping in 4th, it's the first sign of trouble on a 722.4 box. Unusual at such low mileage but it may be the brake bands can be adjusted, other wise either relined or replaced.

Budget £500-£600 for gearbox repair.

a second hand box for one of those shouldnt come in much more than 300ish...
