Good to see you've cracked it.
A reasonable test is to start the car and run at low revs then to floor it to the red line. This checks out the ignition system and fuel for a short duration blast.
If the car runs to the red then try it under a good load, if it then stutters like mad it is usually fuel starvation. This test shows it up as under load the engine requires more fuel for longer so depletes the fuel in the system.
Mechanics don't seem to understand the K-jetronic system yet it's really simple.
At least it's not as bad as this tale. Trust me this is a true story.

2.8 injection won't start.
Owner suspects ignition so replaces everything, still no go.
Next is fuel pump relay and pump.
When changing the pump he gets petrol on himself and manages to create a spark so sets his arms on fire.
He's now off work with burns so calls in mechanic.
Mechanic says well you've done ignition and fuel so it must be compression, so he whips off the heads and does the valves.
Still no start.
Owner back on the case checks power to the pump and 12v feed is fine but earth connection is poor due to corrosion at the body contact point.
Makes connection good and engine fires into life. Doh!!
