Hello All,

I am new to this website...I have just received a 1993 190E Auto from my parents and the car has a very bed vibration when putting the transmition in reverse....does anyone know if I need to replace the whole tranny or is it something simpler.......I thank you for your help in this issue...it is driving me crazy.........one more thing the car vibrates when reaching 60 -65 miles per hour....All/ Any help is very apretiated....Thank you again.

The vibration at 60-65 is likely wheel balance. I think the 190s are quite sensitive to their wheel balance and wear state. Mine did the same thing, getting the wheels balanced helped but seeing as all of the tyres were slightly differently worn, and all very worn, I bought 4 new ones. That solved the problem.

The vibration in reverse is likely to do with your idle. When I shift into reverse the revs dip lower than when I shift into any other gear, so if your idle is low anyway this will pull it down further.
Best thing I can suggest here is give the car a service, or if money is tight just buy it an air filter. They cost about a tenner from the stealers.

What size engine is it?

My exhaust used to rattle like mad when i put the car into reverse. The last owner has at somtime reversed into somthing with the exhaust and pushed it back three inches!!!!!!!! And the back box was vibrating on the underside of the car. I got a spare rubber exhaust o ring and put it between the box and the body. That seems to have cured it for now.

Might be worth looking at the engine and gearbox mountings too
