Very ambiguous , I know , only because I know nothing about them . A family member stumbled across this one in South Africa the other day while visiting a client , started chatting to the owner who said he would be happy to sell it (along with the V12 E31 BMW 850i that is parked next to it , but let's not go there yet) The Ponton has spent it's whole life in the Highveld of South Africa so is likely to be rust free.

It runs and drives and is currently registered and riven from time to time.

I have absolutely no more detail to add. These photos are not great but give us an idea of it's condition .

I have no dog in this fight , just thought it might start a conversation on here ,if anyone shows a REAL interest I can ask for more detail and better photos etc.

Any W180 Ponton 220S in decent order and rust free is going to be worth decent money , £30K minimum and upwards nowadays , don’t be undersold on them .

Ponton Coupes and Cabriolets are now worth more than Pagoda SLs , due to their comparative rarity , but even the six cylinder saloons command good prices when in good , original and unmolested condition as this one looks to be .

That is a very desirable car and looks to be in very nice condition.

Being RHD , which most are not , that car will command a high price here in the UK , or other RHD countries.

Makes you wonder what he'd sell for, and what would it cost to ship and import it to UK! As it's driveable, wonder if one of the car transporter ships would be available, it's how my son got his MG Midget shipped to Freemantle Australia - although he then had to have it trucked to his home in Karratha right up in the north as the fuel stations are further apart than the full tank range of the Midget! Same when he later moved back to Perth.

There are plenty of specialist shipping companies who do this , usually by putting the car in a container.

Australia and NZ are slightly more difficult than most countries as private individuals are only allowed to import one vehicle every 10 years . I had a friend who did that as well , funnily enough with an Austin-Healey ‘Frogeye’ sprite , and later , after his dad passed away , with his MkII Sprite ( which was the same as a Mk1 Midget ) . Fortunately more than a decade had passed .

Agree Pontoneer, must have been garaged most of it's life, no burnt paint, upholstery and interior wood work.
Strong cars for dirt roads.

Presumably the market that would show most interest, and therefore realise the highest potential price, may be Japan.?

Very nice and clear to see where the inspiration for my PFL 212 rear arches came from.
