Evening all,

I'm looking at buying a 1979 280ce. I did'nt ask the bloke who owns it whether he puts un-leaded in it or not, or if he does, should he be doing so ??
Do they run on un-leaded ok, or do they need converting with hardened valve seats or the like ??? Or would it be cheaper to just use a fuel additive . . . doin about 3K a year

Dunno fellas, any ideas ???

They do run OK on unleaded OK but the additives are a safer bet in the long run

Im pretty sure the 280 was safe to use unleaded with a bit of tuning... the smaller engines pre 80 did not have heads that could cope with unleaded in the long run...

My `84 230 had valve seats installed to convert to unleaded in the 90`s.
