1994 w124 e500

I'm not sure that's correct. My 1990 Lancia Integrale was imported into the UK in 1995; the speedo is only in kms but it has been a registered UK vehicle since then.

It's correct according to VOSA regulations for checks on vehicles being imported and wanting to be registered in the UK. However I accept there are cars with just KMH speedo's that are registered as UK vehicles, it just depends on the examiner. But technically it would not comply to the UK construction and use regs.

There was a clampo down on it a few years ago. Prompted I believe by the grey market in Smart cars. When you register you're asked to confirm the speedo has been changed, some but by no means all cars get inspected.

From memory the 500E lamps are different to standard W124 and Talbir had issues getting the correct lenses.

I imported my Dad's 1993 E500 (the first E500s were produced at the end of 1993) from France last year. He had imported from Germany back in 2000. Here is a list of things I needed to change:
- Front lights
- Rear fog light, meaning a new reflector for the right hand side, they kept the same lenses.
- and ... nothing else

The speedometer is still in kph and it pasted it's MOT with flying colours. The new front lights were fairly dear but had to be done.

It is a beast of a car, I especially like the fact that nobody knows what it is. Only 180,000 km on the clock.

In terms of fuel, yes it's thirsty, but if you drive at 65 mph on a long journey, I got as much as 28 mpg on my trip back from France. Generally, I get between 19 and 22 mpg. I have a Skoda Octovia diesel, 1.6, 105 bhp, which gets 50 mpg on average, with the difference in fuel costs, the E500 is only twice as expensive on fuel, but more than 3 times the power and massively more enjoyable!

I've never had a problem getting MoTs with motorcycles that were only in KPH, both older and newer than 1984. In fact as long as a speedo is present it doesn't even have to work to pass. If they get shirty then you can just put number stickers on them at the relevant points on the dial.

My S124 has 2 rear fogs. Did the saloons only get one?

For a West London specialist, Wayne Gates in Harrow gets consistently good reviews on here.

For front lights, as others have said, the 500E had driving lights on the inside, not foglights like lesser models (because it had fogs in the front bumper). These lamp units are rarer and regular W124 units will not do.

Hi BlueQuinn is Joe 007 I am going to purchase a E 500 but in need of attention can you help me out to get some parts for it it needs wiring loom and throttle body distributor cup door sills do you think America will be. The solution? Thank you Regards Joe

My s124 estate 1994 has one rear fog light on the driver's side.
It ought to be possible to wire up two as the tail light units appear to be largely identical.

It is easy to do but you will need the correct bulb holder. Our S124 has two fog lights because it spends most of its time on the continent. Just needed the holder and ran a cable across the boot to connect to it. It does not trigger the bulb warning light even with one bulb removed.
Unlike here most of the cars in France seem to have 2 rear fog lights so you could be lucky and find its already got the holder.
