1996 c180 classic
First up what a great forum / web site, i have had a 96 c180 classic for year now and love it there is only 80000 mile in the clock.
I still have 4000 miles to go before my next service and the thing is going like a pig.
It will start ok i the morning but you have to keep revving it so it doesnt stall, and once out on the road it will not go above 20 mph.(manual)

Once it is warmed up the pick up is very hesitidant and it always feels lumpy.
hope someone can give advice on problem and cost.
I use a Merc spec. not a main dealer.

thanks in advance

It could be a few things but a couple to be going with are,Spark plugs might need changing, A blockage in the air box? Also the car is due for a new fuel filter at the next service so it might need one now! Just a possibility.Oh worst case cat converter.Have you heard any funny noises latley?

Get the specialist to plug in a diagnostic tool and it should list the fault.
I have a very similar problem on a C200 which stalled when i lifted of the accelerator at under 30mph. Also if i revved the car in neutral when the revs settled it used to shake and be very lumpy. Turned out to be the air mass sensor. Cost about £250 to rectify.

Do the exhaust fumes smell very eggy. because thats a sighn that the cat is knackered.

Stu.

Had a similair problem in my old C220 petrol. Turned out to be the cat. It had broken away and was blocking the exit from the exhaust. Had to travel back from Leeds to London going 40mph max on the A1, a sad embarrising day. :o
