Greetings to everyone,

I just killed myself with googling... I just can't find precise info about this model... :(

Can someone help me?

Thanks in advance,

Ronnie Coleman

P.S. Sorry for bad english. It isn't my main language.

Can't help with the car ....... your English is spot on though!!!

I owuld like to know how much horsepower this model have? And second I got dillema... When Mercedes started with SL60 AMG names?! Cause I saw Mercedes Benz SL 600 AMG. I got problem with that name. Because I don't believe that model exist. I think my neighbour trying to lie me. He put on regular SL600, silver amblem AMG. Is MB ever produced SL600 AMG, or there was always SL60 AMG? :)

@stats007: Thanks a lot. ;)

There is no such thing as a SL600 AMG - just a badge. The 600 is a V12 whereas the 60 is a V8. The only AMG R129 in any real numbers available here was the SL60 AMG built from 1993 - 1998 - the later (post '96 facelift) cars had the 5-speed 722.6 transmission - the ignition systems also varied through the years but officially power output was the same IIRC at 376bhp @ 5500rpm and 580 Nm torque at 3750 rpm. There are rumours that some cars were actually pushing 400bhp.

Try a forum search for 'SL60' - there have been quite a few threads about various cars.

Official bhp figure for post 1996 SL60AMG is 381 bhp but like stats said 400+ is probably more accurate.
There was a V12 SL73 AMG available in LHD form only. A version of this engine later appeared in the Pagani Zonda.

And of course there was an SL55 R129, too

There was also an SL730 and SL36 but as mentioned - all low volume compared to the SL60. The 'official' power for the SL60 was quoted as 381PS which equates to around 376bhp.

Apart from the facelifts - nothing. Mercedes changed their designation of SLs from postfix i.e. 500SL to prefix SL500 in 1994. All 600SLs will have been made from 1990 - 1994, SL600s onwards from 1994 - present.

IIRC the V12 didn't come out till 1993, 600SLs are certainly pretty rare.

Hmm, I will post photos of this model in my neighbour. Cuz, if you're right that is strange. This one looks like new one!!!

P.S. Next to my building there is Mercedes Benz 600SL AMG. Looks like new... And you're telling me that model stopped in 1994. :)

Badges cost about £15 each and are easy to fit :)

Just to add to the confusion, AMG made the SL with 3.6, 5.5, 6.0, 7.0 and 7.3 litre engines.
Some V12s were converted by AMG for the Sultan of Brunei with 6.0 and 7.3ltr engines.

I think they've all been mentioned above - as I said the only volume production AMG R129 was the SL60. Not heard of a 7.0l R129 by AMG - the 730s (Sultan's cars)and 7.3s were 7.3l V12s.

If you google r129 sl70 you should find some info

Zonda with AMG 7.0

Apparantly the 7.0 litre engines were test engines and sold to recoup money - they were never an official AMG car.
