Hello Everyone
I've just recently bought a 1997 5 Door Vito & I love it.
However I'm having a bit of trouble with the locks. When I bought the van the fob didn't work so I changed the batteries but still no joy. The fob bulb now flashes but the van still doesn't respond. Any ideas?

Ok so now locking it with the key in the lock. I'll hear it lock all the doors then immediately unlock it again. I'll then lock it a 2nd time it'll then lock-unlock & then lock all the doors. Sorted I hear u say except... If I'm foolish enough to give either of the sliding door handles a tug to check that its locked the centre locking will then unlock all the doors!! Anyone else had this problem or any idea how to fix??
Many Thanx:wallbash:

Hello, lock unlock business means that the central locking thinks a door is open. The switches are attached to the locks. NOT the interior light switches at the doors. Make sure the contacts on sliding doors are clean. First step is to get rid of the lock unlock. Then move on to the keyfob. The lock unlock is to tell you there is a problem then it relocks to lock all possible doors. Seems like your slide doors are the problem. Clean contacts and try again. After that find the locks and start checking the wires. Pull on the front door wires too because these are very often broken or causing intermittant breaks. Sometimes the boot wires too at the top hinge. Start simple and let me know how you get on.

Thanx danny I'll give it a try and get back to ya.

Ok I've done several things all to no avail. I've cleaned all locks and contacts on doors. I've given all the wiring on sliding and back doors a tug, all seems fine. I've wd40ed lock mechanisms. I've not yet checked the wiring on front doors as I need to figure out how to remove door interiors and was trying to avoid. I found a dodgy switch on one of the sliding door posts and fixed but this too didn't change anything with the locking problem. So I guess next I will attempt to get to the front door wiring to check. I'm now beginning to wonder if my problems can all be down to the van not recognising the key fob. I've looked on a couple of sites for info on reprogramming the key and tried a few mentioned methods but none have worked. At a loss as to what else to try. :dk:

So when you get it locked. You can pull the front door handles and the boot door handles and it does not unlock all. Only on the slide doors. I presume you pull the handles from outside. This really seems to be the slide doors are the problem. The lock is in the door end Maybe the connections inside the door. I will check on it this evening if i get a chance, for location and wiring diagram. The central locking module is up under the dash drivers side. a couple of units up there but one is CL. Maybe get atorch and just look at the plugs , make sure they are home. Careful though one may be part of abs. Ignition off when you check
