1998 sl 500 obd

Hi guys

Was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

I have a 98 SL which needs some diagnostic wprk. It does not have an OBD II port could someone please tell me the cable I would need to do this?

You would need a multiplexer to connect to the R129 diagnostic port.

Realistically you should use a Mercedes Start diagnostic tool. Nothing else would reveal enough diagnostic information to be of much use. (Star clones can be found on ebay for a few hundred quid)

Equally, having the knowledge to interpret the Star output is also of great importance so perhaps if you state which part of the country you are in we can recommend a specialist for you.

I bought one of these Mercedes Merc 38 pin OBD OBD2 to 16 pin fault code adapter cable | eBay

It works to give some information if you have a cheap OBD scan tool but as Spike pointed out, you can't beat the Star and the experience to back it up.
