1999.clk320cab,defective light displayed

Help required,
I have "defected light" displayed when I select any gear (auto box). I can cancel this if I hit the reset button on the display. The car drives ok and all gears function normally so I don't assume any gearbox problems, it's just annoying that the display shows this as soon as I change from park. This has only started over the last few weeks and all light are ok and have not been changed recently.
Any suggestions please.

are you sure the brake lights are both ok?
