Firstly apologies if this question has come up before but can't find it if it has...

My father in law has new lenses to replace the crazed/faded ones (notn the only one I have seen with the problem...)

Can't find a Haynes manual so wondered what I need to do to fit them?

They appear standard. Do I need to take the bumper off? I have tried loosening the bolts to the radiator yoke above the lamp but obviously they are fixed under the lamp too.

I will probably end up taking too much off otherwise so any tips would be very helpful.

Thanks

I think this was asked a couple of weeks ago and from memory the bumper needs removing. Hope this helps.

Cool - thanks for quick reply. It looks like it need to come off - but didn't want to do more than is required.

Cheers

hi. I have used both Toothpaste (with baking powder) and Meguiares 'Scratch 2.0' compound to remove the crazing on my headlamps. My guess is that any facial cream mixed with baking powder would work just as well, just don't let yer missus catch you rubbing face cream onto your car or it'll be a showdown. A dab of eye shadow yes, but definitely not the face cream.

Both substances I used required some serious rubbing so I resorted to using a buffing wheel on a dremel. Now they're all nice and shiny again. Not 100% but much less crazing going on. You might also want to use some very fine wet and dry paper for maximum effect.

Thanks for this tip - have used various concotions to help him but no luck (perhaps if I had used yours first I it would have been better).

I spent 3 hours last night tried to get the bumper off (its a S210 I think) to no avail.
I worked out the clip mechanism on each side and various self tappers underneath but I am clearly missing something. Any posts anyone know of or any tips??

BTW the lenses bought from Eurocarparts were the wrong ones in any case, so will have to replace the whole units....

Hope someone can help - thanks again

If you have pre-facelift then bumper does not need to be removed.

There is a thread elsewhere (electrics?) showing how to dismantle headlamp to replace lenses. Essentially you remove the frog below the headlamp assy, remove the headlamp and unclip the lens. NB do disconnect lamp electrics esp if you have xenon.

I need an offside xenon S210'98 pre-facelift lens, but if I can get it off I should be able to refurbish the yellowing which is inside as well as outside, and gently clean the silvering which is dirty. The nearside appears to have been replaced at sometime, there is a wee tell-tale ding in the corner of the wing.
