W210 E320 CDI
Hi,

This is my first post so please forgive any procdural discrepancies.

I have a 1999 E320 CDI W210 and have had a lot of problems with it over the last 2 weeks.

1) The car started cutting out completely when hot and then restarting when cold. I changed the Crankshaft Position Sensor and this seemed to cure it.

2) Then a few days later a new problem cropped up. The car starts but when you press the throttle nothing happens. This can last for as long as it takes to restart the car or up to 15 minutes of leaving it a few minutes, restarting and seeing if it is fixed. I changed the Throttle Position Sensor and MAF sensor. I also switched the transducers that are on the EGR Valve and Turbo to see if that would change anything but no change.

3. The EPC light has been on since the beginning of the first problem and hasn't gone off since.

4. The EPS/BAS light came on just before the problems started but hasn't come on again. From the forums it seems that this error is connected to the brake light switch.

5. Most of the time the car won't rev above 3000rpm.

6. A couple of days ago I drove 30 miles around London without any problems at all. Today I couldn't even drive down the road without it stopping about 10 times. The police even found me in the middle of an intersection and escorted me down the road with the car in drive and at idle moving at a snails pace.

7. I have checked the vacuum hoses from the Transducers to the Turbo and EGR. I can hear the EGR shutter opening and closing if suck on the pipe and I can see the Turbo actuator working when I do the same with the pipe.

8. Sometimes when I was revving the car using the throttle sensor in the front I could see the car just go up to about 3000 and then just seem to block and die but it doesn't switch off and just stays in idle.

9. I have done the Throttle or gearbox reset procedure quite a few times.

I am really stuck now and have done almost everythint that is recommended in all the forums for this type of problem although my specific problem, idling and no revs at all, doesn't seem to mentioned and I just can't solve it.

Any ideas would help.

I have seen in forums about the hoses to the Intercooler but don't know where they are so don't know how to look for that problem.

thanks for any help.

John

Get the codes read, but it could be as simple as the brake light switch cutting throttle response. It does that by design.

My mobile mechanic came by and put the car on the diagnostic system and found that there was a problem with the EEPROM writing which he said may be the ECU. He cleared all the faults both stored and active. We started the car and the faults came back again. He cleared them again and we started the car and everything was fine. Since then i have driven over 400 miles without any problem at all. The problem seems to be solved. The new problem is starting the car in the morning which the car only does after cranking for ages, on and off, and sometimes the battery dies from too much cranking. There is diesel leaking from the fuel pipe at the front of the engine so I think it should be the 0 rings and fuel pipes, which the mechanic suggested when he was here and saw the fuel.
