Quite a nice example though the interior isn't to my taste.

Hi Stats,
What a stunning example, I thought YES.... this is the one, then I saw the interior pictures. The interior is just tooo in your face for my liking (I haven't said anything yet to 'She that must be obeyed'

The exterior colour is perfect, the wheels are perfect, the history is\might be acceptable. (The MOT expires in June)

If it was not for the exterior, I would have arranged for someone to look at the vehicle. Having seen this example, it simply enforces my believe that the perfect car is out there.

Thanks very much indeed for taking the time to post the link.

Regards,
John

That SL is quite nice, although its missing a front indicator

Beautiful interior I reckon, nice & smooth 3.2L V6, with a nice/unusual paintwork colour.

Well spotted, weird considering it's obviously had a good makeover for the pics (tyres blacked, etc.)!

For what its worth I think that car is very, very nice.

By all reasonable standards its not very 'butch', but then again this is a car for your good lady John so unless she has something against very light interiors it could be worth bearing in mind.

Moreover, is that leather a standard option or is it designo? If its designo then it will be of very high quality and will add a bit of individuality to the car - you won't see one like it coming the other way.

Good luck in the ongoing search.

It probably fell off! I was talking to the guy who bought my 500 the other day, and he told me he took it to 245km/h, got home and realised that the indicators had fallen off!

The indicators just click into place - obviously if not done properly then they can pop out!

The leather would be Helios leather as opposed to Designo.

Learning more by the minute.

What is Helios leather?

Plus what price would you expect this car to sell for?

We both like light interiors, perhaps me more so, but this colour looks simply too light???

John

I like that interior but not good if kids are getting in and out all the time.

Having said i don't like reds, I quite like it.

Bet they want 18k+ though.

I would think £16,500 with the mileage it has.

I asked the seller a question:

Hi.
There are one or two very small marks on the corners of the bumper, probably would compound out. We have had no problem with any rusting, the car lived in the South of France for three and a half years and was garaged. There are some small marks on the wheels, again, I don't thnk they are significant.
Just before the photos were taken, the front off side indicator unit was stolen, it was a beautiful day and I didn't want to miss the opportunity of photographing it under those conditions. A new unit is being fitted today.
Chassis no is WDB1290642F1*****. Most of the servicing has been done by Rivervale of Brighton (now H R Owen), one service by the Mercedes dealer in Monaco. Rivervale/H R Owen have all the history on file. The registration number is * *** but that doesn't go with the car.
The car is registered in my wife's name and is therefore one lady owner from new. It is quite stunning.

This car is certainly getting tempting :o Is heart ruling brain?

Is that interior exceptable?

John

I like it !

The interior goes very nicely with the exterior colour and the wood sets it off beautifully !

Interior is purely down to personal taste - I hate it!

"The car is registered in my wife's name and is therefore one lady owner from new. It is quite stunning."

I'm assuming he's referring to the car!!!

I think its a fantastic car, and quite like the interior. It is definately unique in that sense. If I had the money, I think I would have bidded.

John YES, YES, YES and YES. A great looking car the interior is a one off. Go for it.

It's not quite a one-off - there was an SL500 I looked at with the same interior - albeit with the dark burr walnut - which IMO would look better. I'll try and find some photos of that one for a comparison.

Edit:

Some photos of an SL500 with Helios leather and dark burr walnut.

I want to buy something that is perfect in every regard. I have had discussions with 'My Man' aka Stats :) :) This car is excellent, BUT the interior. It is obviously an individual thing, the stunning leather is too light, and the dash looks a bit 'plastic'! My heart is saying buy, buy buy, my brain however is saying wait, wait. Look how long it has taken for this vehicle to come to our attention. (Thanks to Stats)

The owner appears genuine, they have even volunteered to MOT the vehicle (It expires in June) It is cetainly a very nice example.

John

Perfect 500s in the right colour combination are hard to come buy privately - there are plenty of 320s - the ratio has to be about 4:1 in my experience of '99 cars onwards. If you're happy with a 320 then I'd say wait a bit unless this one turns out to be a bargain.

Now you have really done it.........    How much would it cost to fit those extras?

In my opinion it sets off the interior. Totally confused.

Would a 1999 car be considered a modern classic?

Shame on you for confusing me. :) :)

Regards,
John the totally confused
